:wave:Hi Everyone,

1.) I started to notice a few weeks ago that my car is making an irritating high pitch whistle noise as I accelerate and build up revs, and as I fully release the accelerator, as the revs go down, the whistle noise is still apparent until the car is idle. Any ideas?

2.) There is a major clunking noise whenever I take off in first that seems to be coming from under the car, anyone know what this could be?

3.) Just yesterday, as I was rolling up in neutral, the car just shook and eventually stalled. This happened to me 3 times in peak hour traffic. When I got a chance to pull over, I revved the car in neutral, then released the accelerator, and watched the rev meter go 3/4 way below the 1000rpm mark. The car started to shake vigorously then stalled. Is this clutch related???l

I am having problem aflter problem...

Thanks all!

1. does the noise change pitch with higher engine rpm? I have something similar, though it's barely noticeable. might be an alternator bearing going funny, or drive belt related.

2. maybe the diff? does it happen when you accelerate around roundabouts?

3. common s2000 issue. your MAP sensor might be misbehaving. try the map whack:

and reset your ecu/have the car relearn idle. disconnect the battery for 5 mins or more, reconnect and start the car and let it idle. I believe you need to wait for 2 cooling fan cycles, and then 5 minutes on top of that, not including any time taken if the cooling fan comes on again. make sure all accessories are off.

you could also try cleaning your IACV and maybe throttle body.

hope that helps

i think (2) is the diff cause mine does the same thing especially wen i go from reverse to 1st gear then to 2nd.. dont know if its good lol

The clunking your describing is most likely from the diff, it probably just needs new diff oil..... Not sure about the pitch sound, it could be a wheel bearing as it gets louder with speed? Or is the sound coming from the engine?....

2) i got the same problem hahahaha so ****ing anoying, also when i launch from first.. umm i think its the diff brackets that have a slight crack. something like that the bearing not to sure. ima get it checked out ill let uno when ino :)

Hi all,

Re 2.)

I had the whole diff removed before I posted this up and had a diff specialist have a look and replace the parts.Cost me $2700+ all up. If this is happening again, then WTF!!!

Re 1.)

Not sure if its coming from the engine, could be the bearing. Not sure if its related, but as the clutch is in, there is no buzzing noise, but once idle and in neutral, and no clutch in, it makes a buzzing noise. This is separate to the high pitch whistle noise.

Thank you all so much for your time and help!

Hi,

1. Check your PCV valve, either replace it or clean it with WD40. I got this cricket whistle, and have been lead to believe it's the valve.
2. If it CLUNKS once when you "endgage" the gear from stationary, try pre-loading your shocks and re-torquing your endlinks and basically everything else. Double check your diff mounts, as torn mounts will cause slight movement during shifts = harder to get in smooth/precise.
3. Check your ECU for fault codes, it could be alot of things that cause the irratic idle - but FYI, it's semi-normal that the rev's drop after you "blip" the accelerator, it's just the ECU getting semi-confused. But I've never stalled at this point, just get really low idle at times.

I have done all of the above, and it had changed the drive ALOT.

Peace.

im sure on your humming noise? but maybe it could be the humm from the intake?

or just pull the ECU fuse out for 10 mins, then put it back in. start the car up with electronics off (ie. headunit) and let it idle for about 5 mins.. (from what i read anyways).. :)

Hi all,

Did the Map whack and reseted the ECU and it was working just like new for the first hr but then happened again :(

Once again, thank you all for your generousity in sacrificing your time to help me out. Greatly appreciate all your help!

It's probably a faulty sensor somewhere, best bet is to check for fault codes, this will pin point the problem!

Search "SCS Fault Code" on how to do the paper clip trick.

It's probably best to get them from the states.. But I got a good deal cause I bought a whole heap of other stuff and got discounted shipping rate (work).. I got a set spare if your interested.. I have the front (they're the same) and the rear right one that I don't need. Otherwise, eBay is probably your best bet..
