hey guys

just recently ive been getting an extremely loud squealing noise on startup, only happens when car hasnt been started for a few hours and is cold.

sorta sounds like a belt could be to tight but im not sure. i cant start my car and be around at the front of the car to see where exactly the noise is comin from.

any ideas?

thanks.

Mums cars starting to do it now, i forgot what the belts called, think it was thumb belt or some shit. I'll do a quick google search as im unsure of what the belts called, will post my findings.

Apparentally if you squirt water from a water bottle on the belt, it will stop its squeeling for 20-30 seconds, which will help u find out which belt is making the noise then replace or w/e.

Fan belt for older cars or more commonly an alternator, a/c belt etc.....

Check it, its either sh#ithouse or needs proper adjustment or combination of both!

Sounds like the fan belt. Spray WD40, that'll temporary solve the problem. Check for tension and wearing :)

i thought id better add, it doesnt constantly squeal, just for a couple seconds when the car is first started, then goes away

Fanbelt is loose 100%...

It's Winter. The belts get some moisture and squeal for a sec or two.
If you spray your engine bay with water the belts will squeal for longer

:-) there is no fan belt on a Honda motor as they dont have motor actuated fans... but we are definitely on the right track...

you can spray wd40, but some silicon spray is better... but yeh, if its only happenning when it starts then this isnt going to help your issue, you gotta tighten your belts to spec man

Lmao - I don't know if you're being serious or not, but the fans are not driven by belts.

i tried WD-40 on mine ages ago. it made it even louder.. very loud.
to the point where it was embarrassing to drive. LOL

silicone on the other hand works, but only for a few days before sound comes back

just get the belt replaced/tensioned, they're pretty cheap.

dude there are 3 belts we cant tell you which one is loose lol, have a feel of all 3 of them by hand and see which one is the most loose. the most loose one will be making the sound during startup. once u find it just tighten it.

i havent tried adjusting any of the belts yet lol

do it at work, it takes like 10-15mins to adjust all of em lol.

just a rule of thumb I use, about 10mm of deflection by hand seems tight enough for me

power steering should have a wing nut/screw which pulls it up/down
alternator should have a bolt to loosen the top of the alternator letting you push it back/forth
air con should be at a 45 degree angle when looking to the right of the compressor, 10mm bolt I believe

just go grab the manual (http://www.hondahookup.com/manuals/) and it'll tell you how

i think i overtightened it a tiny bit though.
