View Full Version : My HKS Legamax Premium Exhaust

As some may already know, I have bought and installed a second hand HKS Legamax Premium Exhaust from JDM land. This exhaust unfortunately was actually meant for a JDM Odyssey Absolute (200bhp) model while in Oz we get the Type M model (160bhp), so some mods had to be made just to get it fitted.

Firstly, the HKS is I think a 2 1/2" system splitting into 2 2" pipes while our OEM system is a 2". So obviously the cat and the resonator section would not fit. So I had to get a new flange and a small section cut and welded.

The rest of the exhaust just lined-up and fitted. But because my mid pipe was cut in half for transport, it also had to be welded back together.

This is the result

Not too happy with it, so I'm going to get more work done on it. Firstly re-adjust the mufflers so that it is balanced, currently one is slightly lower. Secondly cut the exhaust shorter so that the tips don't stick out so much. Reason why I think it sticks out so much is because of the design of the body kit that is on the Absolute models actually sticks out more.

This is how it sounds currently

When cruising, the exhaust is silent, it is only heard when accelerating and it is not loud.

One side effect is that I have now got to raise my car up because the resonator is freaking huge and is scrapping on some humps. This is the offending piece of metal.

Those that buy the proper Legamax model for our car should not have this problem as the resonator is a lot smaller.

Power wise hmmmm... there doesn't seem to be any change at all. I was expecting low end loss with mid to high end gain.

So at the end of it all, I have learnt an important lesson, next time just freak'in buy the correct exhaust for you car and save the hassle of dicking around just to get it to fit. Will update again when I get the changes made.

Tks for the review Evo, not an easy journey but a happy ending!! HKS sounds pretty "low profile" not "fart" at all and thats what family men love even its for Absolute model. soon or later someone will be joining you installing Absolute model exhaust to AUDM RB1, see if he has the patient as you..... again happy modding bro!! *thumb up*

Journey not finish yet Aus. Not the way I want it yet.

I'm sure that someone will know what to do to get it fitted ;)

I'm curious to see how a proper Legamax will fit our cars..... Atjo?

nice exhaust bro, considering the amount of effort you put to stuff the thing on no matter what.

the sticking out kinda suits your top spoiler sticking out too looking from the side LOL.

when cruising got any droning sound??

Nice review Dam,

whao, the tips do really sticks out! even when you have the rear under spoiler on.

What you need to do is not raise the car up!! that's very wrong wrong LOL
you need to cut off the resonator and put in a straight pipe and Vtec it all the way home!!

No drone while crusing it is as quiet as stock. Only when accelerating then you can hear the exhaust.

Of course, you should hear it since you have air intake now.

i can hear "noise" but feel nothing.... i would not classify ours is "real" VTEC, say economical VTEC is more appropriate hehe

After faffing and farting around with the exhaust I ended up with this.

Before

After

Before

After
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee128/rb1odc/Odyssey/IMG_3208.jpg

The tips don't come out that much anymore. There is no more rattling sound, the hooks were hitting the against something. Managed to get the tips balanced up.. more or less.

No change in exhaust sound after the change.

I was initially pleased until I saw Atjo's exhaust then now I'm not feeling too good again:thumbdwn:

More pics anyway

Just realised that I don't have a dedicated thread for my mods, so I'm just going to use this thread to give an update to my latest change. Have to admit, it was an impulse buy

Work Emotion 11R-FT in Gunmetal Silver.

Have to clean it every week... The brake dust generated by the pads is pretty bad, usually within a week the old rims go from bright silver to dull ash.

Don't have the time to remove rims, either just wipe it down with a cloth or high pressure hose.
