Hahahah. Can imagin the look on your face when that happened. Basicly your body became a earthing path for the electricity as such to flow through. Where abouts on dizzy did you touch??

Static generated by the movement and current being covered up inside the dizzy cap?

If it was a bad shock and you have some tingling sensations, consider getting yourself checked out. The heart doesn't like strong shocks. The energy shouldn't be very high though.
Sounds like you might be having some grounding issues.

i was getting little zaps/tingling in my what felt like my chest and foot afterwards , i dont have the ground wire thing that was debated before on the rocker cover could that be the problem>?
i really am scared to touch the car now lol

Was your other hand on the chassis or some other ground? You've got an insulation problem (i.e. crack) with the dizzy cap or the end of the spark plug leads.
Technically you just got shocked. If you were electrocuted, you wouldn't be the one telling us about it.

there is no problem
if you play with fire you will get burnt
just stay away from the dizzy cap area when the engine is runing. 40KV isnt alot of fun

i would say there is a hairline crack (if you cant see it) in the dizzy cap. your body had less resistance so this path was easiest for the electricity to flow through. if the shock went through your heart, you should really get it checked out cause you could have internally burned some tissue.
if your really worried about getting shocked again then replace the cap.

I can see a hairline crack but it kinda looks like its meant to be there if you know what i mean? ill try and take a pic. I might have to buy a new dizzy cover

Had the same. Cracked distributor cap. Replace it, and the rotor while you are doing it.

No need to worry about your heart mate. I'm a nurse - live people get electric shocks all the time as part of medical treatment. ECT, pacemakers, defribulation etc.

Yeah u will be all good, we used to play with 11KV in the electro lab at college for a while. Only like 0.6 amp though. It stings like a bitch but your body is a natural "resistor" as such till something like 7 Amps though (don't quote me).
----Anyways u said u where missing the earth on top of rocker cover?? Might want to replace that too.

yeah that ground for the rocker cover. gotta pick one up from wreckers or something

it dosnt matter if you have 10 grounds with thick gauge cable, electricity will want to travel the path with least resistance. you were just unlucky :-p

:O pretty sure like 0.1A is enough to stop ur heart...

AC yes but DC is more.

Without the voltage the current is unimportant, saying 0.1 amps won't stop your heart doesn't even make sense...
0.1A 12V DC will not stop your heart let alone overcome the resitance of your body.
~0.004A 240V AC will stop your heart. And if you're getting into kV then it's even less..
I got a shock from my car battery once, it was a hot day & I had no shirt on and leaned over one side of my engine bay (my battery is at the front - Subaru) and got a fair decent hit from the (+) to the chassis straight across my chest/stomach..
Not ****ing cool.. I've had too many shocks over the days

If you know 0.1A is flowing then the resistance and of your body and voltage applied is irrelevant. You couldn't figure out the exact voltage over the heart anyway; and you don't need to. Current is constant in the loop.
The big danger of mains is the frequency component. Your heart much prefers beating at ~1-3Hz than at 50Hz.

ye just make sure you earth yourself when working with anything that contains volts or airbags...might think its pointless but really works..if worst comes to worst rubber gloves WOO
