a scavenger truck suddenly veered to my lane...

written off as of today..

kind of needing a car immediately but to get a R it will be Jan / Feb 2011... GTI is couple of months away...

but a Luxury Sat Nav CU2 is available right now at around $46k drive away from Hornsby Honda.

DUDE! that is devastating! sorry for ya loss! how much was your payout?

pay out should be 29.5k per agreed value.. but feeling shortchanged because that agreed value was when the CL9 in stock condition. had since added Enkei PF01 + Conti Sports Contact 2 = $3600, Injen $600, Parking sensors $300, Buddyclub $1700.

Get a CU2,you will love it.

The new Golfs seem ro be plagued by rattles in their door trims and B pillars,so dont be upset about not getting one.

vwvortex and vwwatercooled forums are full of posts.

I am a VW person who changed to a CU2,and just love the refinement.

I feel your pain,my Jetta was written off by our hail storm a few months ago,but you too will get over your loss eventually.

Damn, that's bad..... Thankfully you are alright and the truck did not push you onto the oncoming lane of traffic.

Take a test drive of the CU2 first. They feel quite different to a CL9 in my opinion, but much more luxurious.

Thats correct, so all owners out there make sure you add your mods to your insurance policy or increase ur agreed value!

Same thing happened to me when my CL9 got written off, lost my toda headers, buddyclub suspension, etc...but they did offer me to buy my car back for cheap.
If they are nice, they will let you exchange your parts for your stock parts, in the end i got my rims back, intake and strut bar lol

they offered me $7k if i wanted to buy the salvage. all parts on the car are staying.

on another thought, if i were to sell the car and all those mods, $29,500 would be a top price don't you think?

it's a dec 2006 Euro Luxury Auto, 40km on the clock, serviced every 5000km, last serviced last week at Top One, blah blah blah.... :)

when i enquired CU2 and GTI last month, the dealers offered me $20k trade in.

so, lesson 1: ensure your insurance policy is up to date. agreed value is better. if i was on market value it would be $24k payout.

they are quite sneaky. i think i am being short changed... the $29500 agreed value was agreed when the car was stock. i actually declared the rims/tyres, buddyclub and injen on the accident day to ensure if the car was going to be repaired these items would be covered, so they were covered but the agreed value stayed the same.

i asked for the repair quote, it was more than $23k to repair and hence they decided to write it off.

included in the repair quote were $1699 buddyclub (F/L & R/R may be damaged), $550 injen (the lower pipe is dented), $720 one PF01 wheel (the tyre came off and severly damaged it), $260x2 repair for the other 2 wheels (tried to avoid the truck but i kerbed onto the island on the right hand side instead), $1100 for 3 x conti sports contact 2 (don't know why they included extra two).

the case manager advised me that these things actually made them to decide a write off instead of repair.

I think its not fair that they wont allow you to pickup the undeclared parts. If you still have OEM parts that included in the insurance policy, you should be able to trade them with the aftermarket parts if the car is write off.

They can turn it around and not cover you at all because you have undeclared parts.

that's right. one reason aami said all mods must stay because after the accident i requested them the exact replacements (if the car was to be repaired). another reason the salvage value was calculated including all those mods.

insurance companies are very tricky you know, if they find any faults that can make them avoid covering the car, they will! apparently in UK the insurance companies will avoid covering cars fitted with retrofit HID's because they argue that the HID's are blinding oncoming cars.

the parts for headlamp alone cost > $2k!

i have a client who buys damaged cars, repairs them and sells for some profit, sometimes a bit of loss, it's a bit of a cash business undetected by the taxman.

As an example, I once had AAMI try and tell me they could have not paid out on 3rd party damage insurance because my old old old Accord had a stereo worth more than the car (accessory value). I said - hang on - this is for damage to another car not mine, how is the stereo in my car going to increase the liklihood of me damaging another car. They tried to say 'well you could have the stereo up too loud', to which I said what if I had a $2k head unit and only two 5" two-ways... They were like, yeah, our policy's stupid but it's underwritten like that so it can't change. However, they also indicated they wouldn't try to rely on that clause really anyway in that situation. Interesting though. [AAMI have actually been very good apart from that for me.]

PS sorry for your car loss, know how frustrating that is, had an 03 Lux with 20k on the clock written off earlier this year by a guy who didn't understand what a give way sign meant...

started car shopping yesterday… and continued to today.

first looked at this since the dealer is quote close to home:
http://www.themotorreport.com.au/content/image/2/0/2010_subaru_impreza_wrx_club_spec_10_02-4bba95561dd5a.jpg
power: no doubt it's a beast!
exterior look: sits too high off the ground, exhaust tips look unbearable, lightweight enkei wheels look ok
interior: cheap plastic
price: the salesman insisted it would be ridiculesly cheap cheap down from $50k in May for the Club Spec 10 if i am committed to make a deal
comment: not really what i wanted but it's available right now and was going to seal a deal but the price was not really cheap as expected (although the salesperson rang me 4 times yesterday and today insisting it would be cheap)

also looked at this:
http://www.themotorreport.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/mit-lancer-ralliart-white-a-thumb.jpg
Comment: rude saleperson at Parramatta Mitsubishi!

took another look and test drove CU2 lux navi... conclusion: it's has everything but heavy and slow.. :(

Really wanted a CW GTI 5 door, DSG and Bi-Xenon (found a couple of fully optioned GTI above $50k, but at this price for me R would be a better option for a bit more if the R is available now)
Then found this:

It’s a manual with sunroof, July 2010 compliance, it has 21km on the clock, basic, clean and simple. Full of potentials!
Having wanted DSG and Bi-Xenon I thought I could compromise a bit for this one that can be delivered next week. Test drove a manual demo and was quite happy with manual. Negotiated the price and reached a reasonable deal. Had a second test drive to ensure manual was the way to go. At the end of the second test drive my wife rang me and reminded me that it’s better to wait and get what I wanted than rushing into something that I did not intend initially.
The salesperson searched the whole stocks availability across Australia for CW + Xenon + DSC.. no luck!
So… the journey continues...

Why dont you look at a Jetta 147 TSI ???

Its basically the sedan version of the Golf GTI,you would probably get one soon, grab a good deal, and can get it in Candy White...with DSG.

You would love the boot space, the only downside to getting a Jetta is there is an all new one coming in about a year.
Dont know if that would worry you.

I had one for 3 and a half years, would have bought another, but wanted a change...thats why I bought the Euro.

I love the Euro, but have to be honest and tell you that VW is a great brand, and I actually DO miss my Jetta...........

Might go to my freindly VW dealership next year to look at one...

I went the opposite way from you mate. I had a CL9 MY05 lux 6MT and went to Jetta 147 TFSI. You're right. Its a golf GTI sedan. Loved that car, however i didnt know how much it actually depreciates compared to, say a VW GTI. The boot is HUUGE!!! loved it!

And MK6 Jetta is ass. Trust me. MK5 Jetta is a lot better looking. They already started selling the new MK6 jetta in mexico as the jetta factory is there. Its even up on the VW Mexico website. Have a look if u wanna vomit.

I'd recommend a Jetta, but I dont like the depreciation. It doesnt hold its value i have to admit

Dedy's FD2R is REALLY nice in the flesh I have to admit. I thought it'd just be like any other civic. i think depreciation on Honda's and VW's should not be a big issue. they are not like Falcon, Camry, Commodore and co... which are often used by fleet.
Still tossed between options... the GTI white can be delivered this week but no BiXenon.

I might just wait until I see the 2011 WRX on the official launch day on 8 Sept next month (a salesperson offered me an invite for the official launch this afternoon).

I guess its an acquired taste. I initialy hated the WRX hatch when I first laid my eyes on it. Let me be frank and say I still dont like the WRX HATCH. I DO however like the WRX STI HATCH. Seeing that made me slowly change my mind about the looks and after seeing this WRX sedan, I would prefer the STI hatch.

But it can grow on you.....kinda like a rottweiler or a pug. If you own one, it might look butt ugly but u accept it for how it looks and u eventually see the "beauty" in it.

So is this the MY11 WRX with sti-like pumped guards? So in terms of aesthetics, what does the STI get then? Just a massive rear wing, similar front bar and different rims?

Strange how subaru is taking this approach? THe WRX hatch and the WRX STI hatch can be clearly identified due to the normal WRX lacking the pumped guards the STI has. But if the WRX sedan LOOKS exactly the same as the WRX STI, bar the wing and rims, whats the point?

But then again, thats how theyve been doing it in the past as well so....hmmm.....

The Subaru is hideous looking.

Almost as bad as the Mitsubishi Lancer hatch.

Would you seriously go from an Euro to this..lol ???

in terms of looks inside out, CU2 and GOLF GTI win my heart :)

saw a couple of CU2 luxury black in Kingsford last night and was kind of alluring me to just forget speed and buy the CU2 instead. and it's available right now!

Any plans of chipping the GTi if you got one? the DSG is not too reliable compare to the manual if you up the power and torque too much.

Well, here is a blur magazine review from a guy who have both manual and dsg version of the Mk5 Gti

i will keep the engine stock until the end of warranty, but keen to do minor mods CAI and Exhaust.

i prefer DSG because on night outs i can drink and get drunk and let my wife drive me home :p (she can't drive manual)

Funnily enough I was going to do a similar thing to you,and buy a 2008 Corolla sedan,ex Avis for $16500,whilst waiting for the 2011 Jetta 6 to be launched.

But I am very lucky, and extremely spoilt.

I have had 7 cars, and all have been brand new.

I just felt a bit nervous about buying used,so I bought a new Euro...which has been full of niggles, but I still LOVE it very much.

the CU2 luxury navi is still my option, black / white / silver, all available for immediate delivery. the CL9 was actually my first second hand car, had 4 new cars previously started when i was 14 y.o. (i came from a country where by paying a bit of premium you could get a license to drive:p )

of course no driving test :)
you could opt to do so if you wanted to..
driving in that country requires quite a bit of skills though. people change lanes without indicators. on some streets, the gap between cars parked and your car is less than 50cm and there's usually uncovered gutter on the other side. and many other untidy things.
but in saying all these, this was the common practice in the 90's. i think it's a lot stricter now...

that's why RTA would not grant NSW license without the usual procedures (L to P1, P2, open) for this country's license holders, you bet they know the reason :p

Have a change from the White, and go for either the Silver or Black, they are IMHO the 2 hottest Euro CU2 colours, and the most popular in Melbourne,as well as the Grey.
The luxury navi is such a superb car,JUST DO IT.
The White,Red,and Navy are far less popular.

AAMI rang me saying that the other party denied of any wrong doing. he said that i tried to overtake him and hit his truck while he was on the left lane.

i told AAMI to check the wheels on the right front and rear as this proves that i got squeezed between his truck and the island in the middle of the road.

i was probably on his blind spot and as he was a scavanger, he was probably focused on looking out what he could pick up from the pavements (it was the Sunday before council recycling week)

the rear right wheel got a big hit from the island, and the suspension was also damaged from it.

the front left is the worst and it got direct collision with the truck.

what do you think?

Kinda hard, did you manage to get an eye witness? Court is the only option I believe...

finally decided on a car (but really more of my wife decision)!

was going to order a pearl white MY2011 WRX sedan w/ leather satnav and sunroof due to be launched in 2 weeks time, but things are not so simple being married.

bought a cobalt blue CU2 Luxury SatNav with mats set, extended 5 yrs wty, lock nut set, boot tray and rear bumper protector.

might want to change it to black... (my wife chose the cobalt blue)

HAhaha you go tell everyone else about that! But seriously you still have better option with CU2 instead of like me end up with C-Class from CU2 :(

Anyway, cobalt blue is nice colour, but if you have time (A LOT OF time) to detail your car, then go with black!

Black does look very nice, but only when it's spotlessly clean. And Honda paint is very soft, so it swirls very easily, and is a pain to polish. Believe me, blue is a much more practical colour, and still looks very nice. If you get black, wash it with care and unless you have lots of time and ability to detail it yourself, prepare to have it professionally detailed every now and again.

How are you going with the claim? Persevere, keep at them! Get as many pics as you can. There should be scrapes on the kerb where your wheels hit, get pics of that too to back up your claim. A witness would be best of all, but if you didn't have one at the time, then your best evidence is all the details from the crash site.

My sister had another young girl change lanes into her once while they were trying to pull around a car that was turning left. The other driver admitted everything, was quite prepared to pay, then the boyfriend (who was the passenger) tried to tell us my sister was the one at fault, and claimed that my sister was speeding (!!). A few anxious weeks wait, and finally we threatened to take them to court. Not sure what happened but they eventually capitulated and paid out, I guess the girl driver actually had a conscience and did the right thing.

Let that be a lesson Denot, only listen to a female in the kitchen.......but that doesn't always work either. When it comes to car selection, never take a females advice.
