the best weight you can save is the weight of your wheels and brakes and lower suspension arms its basically worth 10x the weight you pull out of the cars interior.. depending on how extreme you go and your car is as to where you ca take weight from.. you can remove your heater box aswell as the A/C, buy CF hatchs bonnets panels etc.. drill out bumpers, drill out all the nuts in the car your not using etc etc etc.. the list doesnt end I have taken ove 400kg out of my EG hatch so there is alot you can take out..

there are alot of ways to loose weight!
depending on how extreme/serious you are!
but will cost money, alot of ppl think that taking parts off is easy! but they are not considering aftermaket parts like cf bonnets, hatch, lexan window, windscreens, fiberglass doors,
also if you are that serious in weight reduction you might consider seem welds! and not use a roll cage to save weight
take out ac/ps, side mirrors!!!! drill holes every where you can, dash board out just cable tie your tacho!

if u want to go faster then just get out a huge pick and put "SPEED HOLES" on ur bonnet. I saw Homer Simpson do it last night on the simpsons. Supposedly makes ur car faster! hehehe

well if you put speed holes in the rear bumper and cover all the holes in your front bumper you will drop your times on the 1/4 as well as pick up trap speeds.. same as removing mirrors and taping up all the gaps in your bonnet...

Do you guys worry about the effects of weight distribution/corner weight ratios being disturbed? Not so much of a problem with drag racing in mind but for circuit.....

hmm....one thing people don't mention is that...a Racing Fuel Tank...i think you guyz know how heavy a normal fuel tank is rite...EG5, is that a good idea for you? i think you can cut down by 10 kg or something like that...or may b you should also try...instead of making your exhaust all the way to the back, why not to the side of your car?...save some weight as well...i think this 2 stuff can cut down damn alot of weight...other than that, i have lil idea left...hope it helps...

EG5

pgclee : racing fuel tank is good for weight reduction.
why dont you try to get fiberglass hatch , fender etc and lexan windows?
are u gonna make your car for drag only?

hmm on this point

any1 know anything about those brake disc shields that sit behind the brake discs? apparently u can get them off and accompanied with the exhaust shields u can save a little. by removing u also cause a 20% improvement in brake disc cooling as well. but why the hell r they there in the first place? to stop brake dust from getting into suspension parts? (the idea i got out of an article in car and driver a few years ago; but the shit they did is too extreme for me...)

Limbo

1) stop rocks from hitting you don't wanna damage the discs or get stuck in the pads
2) stop water from touching, this can cause warpping of the discs

If you take off the heat shields on your exhaust you can wrap them with exhaust wrap to stop the heat from going inside the cabin

890kg is light, but then you will be sacrificing some comforts for that i.e noise, heat etc etc....

pgclee
08-01-2005, 01:56 AM
if people is thinking 890kg...they won't give a damn about comfort anymore dude...haha...

with the car actually weight 840-50, roll cage is a must in car that light for track use.

I was thinking, mabe removing ur strut bars could help with weight.

Dont think they would be required for a drag run.
