Hey guys im pretty new to this whole site thingy but ive been around the block in regards with hondas. I've had an 89 integra and since have owned an EG4 efi. In my opinion the d series in my car has been pretty decent over the years, its zippy, good on fuel and what not. Nyways at the end of last year i had my engine replaced to a d16y4 out of the civic coupe (gli) cos my previous D's crankshaft blew out, it was an ongoing issue that i didnt bother addressing cos i was kinda hoping to upgrade to a b series or just the single cam vtec engine. i didnt have the cash at the time to source out an ecu so i settled onto the gli, easy drop and bolt.

back to the point ive been considering upgrading to a b16, but i just wanted some opinions from some of you guys before i delve deeper into this. i know the sorta price range im looking at for a conversion, but what power outputs will i be getting, and is it cheaper to go boosted instead. also which is a more reliable option

btw my current D setup ran a best of 16.0, but ive been told it cudve done more with cai and lighter wheels (and a better start)
i had a few runs with some sr20's, (n14 and nx) and the car evens out on third
if uve got some b16 times please post!!

B16A's normally run 15's stock or 14's with a some mods (so I'm told).

B16A is more reliable than turbo D (that is if you try to boost your D for the same price as a B16A swap).

B16A with I/H/E tends to make 90-100kw depending on health. Mine made 99.4kw with CAI, header and muffler (no cat or cat-back).

B16A is a great engine IMO. The B series is not a thing of the past like some people think. It's alive and kicking and I love the soul of the B-series.

so a b16 stock would pull low 15s?
im guessing a cheap turbo setup should do more than a second faster than it is stock (best of 16.0 current engine)

mate have a b16 and while i dont claim that it pulls mad times, the whole ek4 package is an incredible bit of kit.

when im feeling down it always satisfies and brings me up.

if only for one of those "push start" ignition buttons i think i would be completely happy.

good luck

B16A2 for the win! Turbo D is fun too but you need to see what your goals are with the car, Drag, Track, Hillclimbs etc

if you can find a decent B16A(2) for a good price they are a lot of fune. I've had my JDM B16A(2) for about 5 years now, with stock internals, i/h/e and spoon ECU it ran 14.61 on khumo street tyres..

Maybe with a good full exhaust, CAI and tune you might hit 110 on that particular dyno, but I still think 110 is a big number realistically. Most ITR B18C's only hit around 110 +/- with I/H/E tuned.

yea iv been wondering why its unusually high
how far can the dyno be off?

No idea bro. But most I/H/E B16's tend to run 85-100kW depending on health. Tuned should make another 5kW or whatever. Super healthy you can pull over 100, don't get me wrong. Maybe you have a plum engine? Can't hurt to do a compression ratio and find out mate.

Mine made 99.4kW with CAI, header and muffler. No cat, no cat-back and no tune. Furthermore I am convinced of this reading because I was on the dyno with another four VTEC B-series friends.

fair enough whats the easiest way to do a compression test
i wouldnt mind doing a power run on another dyno just dno where

Most machining shops or mechanics probably can. You want results of 200+ in each cylinder with no significant difference.

My B16 made 215, 210, 215, 220 which is apparently very good. I'm sure your's will be similar mate.
