got a punchture on my cheap ass no name brand tires.. good excuse to to upgrade .. reading the recent motor magazine with the bang for your buck sports car test, i notice quite a few cars there having the re050A tires, from bmw to the golf gti R.. i've driven my mates new gti with these tires and i like them.. but he saids it slips all the time.. don't know... called bob jane for a quote 18inch 225 $495 a corner? WTF?

what you think? worth the dosh? i don't mind paying $300 a corner, you pay for what you get but $495 is a bit steep/

These are common on the "performance cars" that the manufacturers bring out.. Companies that use bridgestone usually use re050a on their performance cars....That said, im pretty sure there are cheaper alternatives and almost as good.. 495 a corner.. should be that much for the stock size...you have aftermarket rims?

Try Bridgestone Potenza RE001, they are almost equivalent to the RE05A - should be around the $300 mark per corner for 18inch

I got quoted heaps more than $300 per corner but i may be wrong. I have yokohama c-drives and they have been great so far.

I have RE050a's on mine. Pretty good, but as the others have said here I think you should just go for RE001's. Mayb my coilovers arent that stiff, if its a tight turn, i feel the steering suddenly feels very light...kinda feels like im losing the front end of my car. Didn't have this problem with the stock tyres. Also my RE050a's are tramlining like a bit*h at the moment.

The RE050A's are a good tyre, but it's difficult to justify the price especially when considering they wear like Extreme Performance/Semi-Slicks almost. I'm using the Hankook Ventus V12 EVO's. Couldn't be happier... at $205 a corner fitted and balanced... (225/45/R17's) It's very difficult to beat.

Handling and grip is great, to be honest sidewalls probably could be a bit stiffer (Australian Delivered ones only have 1-ply nylon, imported ones are 2-ply polyester) but they still have great turn in. If you have 18" wheels (on a wheelbase the size of the Euro's) I'm guessing your main priority probably isn't ride quality/handling anyway.
Treadwear so far is to be expected from a High performance Summer tyre and I can't hear tyre noise at all even after approx 12,000kms use and one rotation.

One thing though, Make sure you get them fitted by a good tyre place... I seem to be loosing a very steady 1-2PSI a week evenly. I've looked into it and I've been told the place I went to uses very average quality valves.

Got a quote from bridgestone tire centre in box hill for re001 225 40z r18 for $375 includes alignment and balancing..... well got my puncture fixed at tire factory today for $30 and they were recommending me sumitomo tires.. they're made in japan , the rubber feels pretty soft.. $275 a corner.. anyone had any experience with this brand? as much as i love the bridgestone brand.. i can't help but think that i'm paying that bit more for the brand it self and not for tire quality..

Oops! Missed the 18" bit. My reply was more about the tyre than the price. I was reporting my good experiences with certain Dunlop tyres. I've found Bridgestones to be short-lived in the past. But the old RE71 was the sexist tyre on earth (IMO). Did not last long though.

just sharing my exp,
having read a lot of tyre threads and various car forums
changed all 4 tyres to RE001 225/45/R17 made in Taiwan for $240 per corner at Bridgestones stores, fitted and balanced last wkend.
considerably much quiter then wearing out RE040 after 4.5 yrs. havent had a chance to test on wet grip as it hasnt rained that much.
apparently lack of stock for Japanese made RE001, only available in selected centres.
i'm no expert but the Taiwanese ones are pretty grippy in dry and wouldn't spend too much more for day to day driving!

I had re001's on my civic. They wore down pretty quick but unbelivable grip levels. In the wet they had no traction but in the dry they were the best tyres I've ever had. I can't remember the exact price but they were under $300 per corner.

I use RE001 Adrenalins on my DC5R. They came with the purchase. And my personal evaluation of them isnt good. People think they are awesome for some reason though. I could tell they were crap anywys by looking at the tread. Racing tyres should have a V shaped tread. Crap handling for me personally, feels like there is little or no traction on corners. Taking off it wheelspins WAAY too much. And when it rains, roundabouts make me uneasy. Two good tyres that I have tried are - Kumho Ku36's and Toyo Proxes 4. KU36's are cheaper of the pair have good traction on the dry, I dont know about wet cause I was joyriding a friends car. I was happy with the grip, but there is too much screeching for my liking. Toyo Proxes 4 now this is a good tyre. More expensive but your paying for quality. I had these on my FD2 and it was SOOO grippy. Felt like a gecko stuck on the road lol. And there wasnt much screeching while in turns either.
