I'm just after peoples opinions on early Honda Jazz's, around 2002/2003.

I'm looking for a first car for the wife and there seem to be some 1.5l models available for around $9 – $10k, with around 100,000kms.

Do they have any common faults I should look out for?

What are service/parts costs like compared to say a Toyotoa Corolla or Mazda 323 of similar vintage?

I believe the automatic jazz had the cvt transmission so be weary of that when you test drive, the cvt if not taken care, one symptom if shaking/vibrations upon stand still acceleration, parts are expensive when it comes to transmission.
And if you are buying one that has 100,000km on it don't bother servicing at Honda, just get an independent mechanic who knows Honda's to service it, power steering you will need genuine Honda fluids and the transmission depending if it's manual or auto.
good luck

The cvt transmission is the most common problem with the early honda jazz. The cvt gear really need to take care with, otherwise it cost a lot to repair it. I also heard from other people that the service and part cost a bit more compare with toyota and mazda.
I m selling my Honda jazz 1.5L VTI-S model, but the price is a bit more than you expected, just give you a link to see pm me if you r interested. http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=9220586&__Qpb=true&Cr=7&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_Price_Decimal|1|| pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&keywords=&__N=834%201216%201246%201247%201252%201282%2042949 65322%204294965319%20900%204294922413%20%20410&SearchAction=N&silo=1011&PriceTo=410&seot=1&__Nne=15&trecs=16&__sid=127082551FC2

Wat up guys, I've been looking at jazz's, and felt that vibration from the standstill when we did a testdrive. Just as well i checked this.

Now i'm thinking if getting something else instead of jazz

well the problem only exists in the CVT variant (which is all the automatic optioned Jazzes, not sure about the newer models), you would be safe in the manual, if the CVT is serviced correctly then it should be safe.
