correct, its good motor, if u get the right one, with correct tranny, with LSD, win win situation, though since ur in melb, u cannot replace ur current gen D16y with D15b because simply its a older motor, but i heard there was a loop hole, not sure though

SOHC VTEC D15B is the same power (give or take a pony or two) as a D16Y1 and a Y8 SOHC VTECS !! should have a black Valve cover also..

holy crap thats cheap - over here in WA we would pay well over 1k$ for a D-series =/

if its a D15b Vtec with manual LSD than it would be a fun little engine =D

There's a JDM D15b that has 3 stage Vtec, it's actually for economy (but also gives good power).

http://asia.vtec.net/article/d15b/

I really wanted one of these for my wifes EG, but seeing as we may sell the car, just cant be bothered to do all the changeover, would be a perfect city drive-around though.

Same reason I wouldnt mind the 2003-2004 Civic as the replacement but get a K20 halfcut from Japan, as those Civics came with that option over there, no idea why all of Au ones were 1.7, the damn Camry had a 2L

civics wer made to compete with the corolla ... not the camry

So does that mean every new Civic, Jazz, and Accord should be turbo? as the oposition is now pretty much all trubo, and Honda is the only NA manufacturer, even Skoda is relasing the Octavia with boost, I just think its a shame that we can't afford a new car, and I like the 7th Gen Civic as for my wife it's not much bigger than an EG/EK, and would be much more liveable with the bigger engine option, all the long family trips we do, my wife insists on using her car, the DC2R stays at home..

And as the original poster wanted, a value for money replacement, if the D15B ticks the boxes, and is a good price, why not?

TheSaint

honda doesnt need the turbo =D
lol just jokes

the current model corolla has a pretty average dohc 1.8ltr in it (i own one), and the camry isnt as good as the accord euro - so i dont really know what your getting at
(the previous generation sportivo had a ZZR engine in it but it was wieghted down by a heavier interior)

if the 7th gen was released with a k20 in aus i think it would have been alot more expensive and would have held its value as well

yeaps. so we can conclude eg8 can be either non-vtec or vtec.
was just tryna point that out guys haha
jdm eg8 are almost fully optioned with 3-4 things missing to be fully optioned. audm got the poor end of the stick huh

TheSaint

but in all honesty, should of have got the d15b if it was same priced, wikipedia showed that d15b did reach the ek sedan generation so it may have been possible to put in.

last ''spam regarding the d15b eg8'' promise!

agreed ... but its still better than carby + no options at all lol

yeah.. i duno how im gunna cope with no cupholders in my prelude. haha that cars got NONE, but im loving the single-din pocket for my phone n pack of smokes.
my eg8 has 4. two in the front that pop out and two at the back, where the center passenger seat backsupport theres a pull out armrest with 2 cup holders. and their usualy full! ive got a bottle as well sitting in between the the driver seat n doors lol on the floor, fits snugly haha
