Heyas,

I am considering purchasing a (relatively cheap) 94 civic with a b16a engine conversion but there are some aspects that worry me. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the sale link as I don't want to hamper with his sale.

My major concerns:

1) Mod plated for b16a and gearbox however it still has rear drum brakes.

-All the search links I looked at indicated the rear brakes has to be upgraded to disc (?).
Mod plate is from Bellaco Engineering - a google search comes up with next to nothing.

2) Engine check light is on and the odometer also doesn't work (white eg6 cluster). Seller says he got it checked out at hi-power racing and its a common and accepted issue with engine conversions. Just as long as the engine runs fine it shouldn't be of concern.

-I believe Ivan guarantees no engine check light with his conversions so why would he say its an acceptable problem. I can't find an error code for a failed odometer so i don't think those problem are related(?)

Other than that, its in good nick for its age.

I kind of answered my own questions but its what I think, not actually what I know.
I know if its too suspicious I should walk away but if anyone can bring any light or experience to my questions, it would be much appreciated.

My friend. something to always keep in mind. Non working odometer = non genuine K's.

They dont just not work out of no where. And if it is a common problem, it should and will have a common solution.

My opinion. Stay away.

as for the rear drums. Yes technically to be legal the rear brakes should be the discs. You wont have any problems registering it in your name. If you had to go over the pits with it one day then yeah they would probably notice, even then its more the mod plate guys fault for pretty much doing a dodgy plate as the brakes weren't up to spec. Super easy to convert to rear discs if you ever wanted to.

I'd be weary of the engine check light and odometer. Only thing that springs to mind is it's maybe a problem induced from some wire splicing from doing b16 conversion on a car with different OBD wiring loom. If the loom is right for the car and the engine then no there shouldn't be any 'common and acceptable' engine check light/emission light problems. Technically a car with a check light on is not roadworthy as its usually to do with emissions and he would need a dodgy roadworthy one to sell the car to you if its registered
