Aim: To make your door trims along the window looking new again, as most of the time the door trims just get sun burnt and it crinkles up with white cracks making your car look very untidy and ugly.

Required:
- I just used Kiwi Leather instant wax shine in black because i wasn't bothered to go to my local auto store to by forever black polish for cars. This should set you back about no more then 10 bucks from your local supermarket store.
http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx26/Mr_PT92/DIY%20making%20door%20trims%20look%20new/DSC03398.jpg
- clean cloth to clean the door trims

- masking tape to mask up the areas that may be leaked onto the paint. No more then 5 bucks.

Steps:

1. Mask up all areas carefully that may get some of the new black shine/paint/wax or whatever you want to call it leaked onto. i.e your doors so it won't get leaked onto the paint which may leave some very untidy and ugly stains on it. I gave mine 2 lines of masking tape along the doors just to be on the safe side.

http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx26/Mr_PT92/DIY%20making%20door%20trims%20look%20new/DSC03392.jpg

2. Clean up the door trims with a damp cloth taking off any dirt that may be on them, as this may affect the quality of the new paint on the door trims.
http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx26/Mr_PT92/DIY%20making%20door%20trims%20look%20new/DSC03395.jpg

3. Start giving the trims a first layer of black to it. Carefully stroking it along side and not allowing any leaks to be on the trims.
http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx26/Mr_PT92/DIY%20making%20door%20trims%20look%20new/DSC03399.jpg

4. Allow to drive for 3-5 mins and give it a second coat. Depending on how badly burnt your door trims are you my need to give it several coats.http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx26/Mr_PT92/DIY%20making%20door%20trims%20look%20new/DSC03403.jpg
http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx26/Mr_PT92/DIY%20making%20door%20trims%20look%20new/DSC03401.jpg
http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx26/Mr_PT92/DIY%20making%20door%20trims%20look%20new/DSC03404.jpg

5. Allow the final coat to dry for about 10 minutes. And then give the trims a quick wipe down with a damp cloth.
http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx26/Mr_PT92/DIY%20making%20door%20trims%20look%20new/DSC03405.jpg

6. Peel off the masking tape and BAME its looking new again (Y). Making your car look a lot neater and better.

an epic product to use is called 'forever black' you can get it from autbarn and its cheap. works by staining the plastic with a dye that was used to make them black in the first place. you have to tape up your doors around the place ur blacking as it will stain ur clear coat if it drips down (can wash it off tho but will take a while)

i think this stuff bleeds in the rain,
but since you are basically putting it into the cracks and wiping excess away,
u may not realise the bleeding process cos there isnt that much shoe wax on + ur car is black also

i rekon u could do like a clear coat or something to preserve it? idk
good idea though

by door protectors you mean the rubber strips that go along the door that stops retards opening their doors and hitting you in car parks then maybe. It depends what the protectors are made from as different companies use different things. But if your talking standard black rubber then yes it should work just put on a few coats and allow to dry properly. but make sure u tape up your doors.

i used it also on my sisters white corolla and i have not seen any bleed yet just clean it up well with a moist rag while in the process of painting it and it should be fine.

will update though if any does bleed onto the car.
but if yur scared go with forever black. as said its only just a suggestion nothing else.

Hey where can I get it replace from Melbourne? Mines too damaged and showing the metal bit, looks real ugly :( .. reckon I can peel off the rubber/plastic so it just shows the metal or that will look bad still?

^ Don't attempt it if you don't feel comfortable.

Just mask around it with masking tape/painters tape ( 2-3 layers if your scared ). Sand it down, clean it with wax and grease remover then give it a few nice even "thin" coats of quality exterior paint.

will forever black stick to the chipped chroming bits that are showing in the above pics ?

Just thinking for the future as i wash my car at the car wash (high pressure hose etc) and my car is white so really wouldnt want it dripping / chipping off again everywhere.

should stay on if done right

This is why people have said you must sand it so there aren't any "chips" in your which can also be called flakes if you want. These flakes or chips can cause the new paint you spray to "peel or crack" very quickly.

Sand your item down, apply 1-2 coats of primer, this allows your new paint to adhere much better than just sanding and spraying over but it's completely optional just making sure before you spray ANYTHING that everything is nice and smooth, no rough spots.

Hope that helps
