Hey just wondering if this sounds about right for my 1.6 SOHC VTEC. Getting it done friday and so far were doin 2" pressbent from the cat back, i was thinking 2 1'4 pressbent but the fella said it might lose power..can anyone confirm what is best?

2" mandrel bent perhaps? a 2" pressbent isn't a true 2" diameter catback all the way through... even with a SOHC VTi engine, a 2" mandrel should go well?

What muffler?
3A racing muffler, just like a chrome cannon the ones egSi sells..

2.25 is better

2.25 is the way to go, ini the end they all sound like loud farts anyhow
I wouldnt go bigger than 2.25" - preferebly 2" with a perforated resonator. And if you want a nice deep and smooth sound go with a XFORCE TWIN LOOP muffler at the end (in 2.25" and 2.5" piping):
Type S10 - Mugen Twin Loop Replica
Type S12 - Oval canister type, with a silencer
why does egsi say about the size? doesnt he have the same car as you?

Trav (egsi) has an Si (hence his nick), the DOHC non VTEC D engine.
Tanghy, are you recommending 2.25" even if the engine will stay relatively stock? eg. I/E?

If you cant decide get the best of both worlds..
get 2" middle piping into a 2.25" muffler section..
Mandrell is much better than press bent and u're only paying an extra 20% (or $50 for a cat back system)
the super turbo mufflers are pretty good too.. They're inexpensive. Not that loud. And unpolished stainless steel. Set u back about $70-100 at rare spares.

yeah i thought that the 2" mandreal was the go or instead 2.25" pressbent, add another 1/4 inch for the different bend. i dunno but..

mandrel bent maintains the size throughout...whereas pressbent i would say restricts the size at the points of the bends. Sortof like bending a straw and then trying to suck thru it!
for a 1.6 (non turbo) i would definitely go with 2" mandrel bent.
From what ive experienced, if you want to increase power - go with a smaller size....as close to stock as possible, just make it free flowing. Its like blowing a little rolled up ball of paper thru a straw, if the straw and the ball of paper are a nice fit, then blowing air thru it will force out the paper nice and quick - and it will go far. If you get a bigger straw and use the same size ball of paper, then when you blow thru the straw you wont force out the paper as easy - ie you need more blow-power! Thats why bigger pipes are used for turbos. For N/A cars - especially those <1.8L - staying as close to stock size is the best! Otherwise you may even lose power because your pipe is too big!
Hope this analogy helps!

then just put on a nice resonator and muffler (and get a nice cat as well) and youre set!
ps - are you putting headers on?

I got a 2inch mandrel bent cat back with a resonator (from longlast exhaust) and egsi N1 shinny muffler (free plug).
After i fist got it, it was so loud and droning, but after a week or so,, once its filled up with carbon, it gets a quiet nice deep sporty tone and really screams when vtec kicks in... its TIP- TOP
Quick pic i got after i got it (note there no black in it)

it was prob from a JDM type R person. Their stainless steel 4-1 headers are great, they're ones you could say are good flowing
