1996 - 1998 but i think he wants a correct month of manufacture as he wants to get adjustment of records to his ek, if motor is older then vehicle he won't be able to register his car

Regardless of the year of the engine if the b16a2 was sold in a 98 ek then you will be able to register is because the engine is 93-98 not a specific year I know this because my engine is a 93 and my car is a 94 model but on the books the engine was offered between 93-98 so your sweet
Hope it helps

gen 1 b16's are only b16a, so i don't think you will be able to register it to a 98 ek, but regardless of the year of the b16a2 it was offered till 2000 so you can register it with no problems.

just to help you out
you dont need a blue slip becuase ur displacement isnt increasing by 20% or something like that, but you will need to go to the rta and notify them about the engine change it will cost u something like $50 or so to change the paper work, when i did myn it was $30 but im pretty sure prices have gone up cause they alway seem to do so at the rta lol

Do we know if the gen1's are able to be registered or?

They would be if you have an eg. Ek I don't think so. The gen 1's were offered in the eg6 if I'm not mistaken. So it would've ended in 1995.

The gen1's started in 89 and ended in 95?
I thought its just engine age besides the displacement that decides whether its able to be registered or not, ie even though gen1's went to 96 u can't register an 89 in a 92 model EG for example?

Might be wrong but that's what i thought

Cant you just look on top of the headers? on the engine... where it should stamp what yr it is .. if its 98 you will see a stamp like 9|8 in a circle or somthing??

look on the engine for something like this. as you can see this one has 9|4 meaning its a 1994 engine.. so just have a look at yours and you will know what yr it is

you are wrong. it is about the engine age but because they produced the same engine from 89-95 you are still able to register it to the car. so say the car is a 95 eg, you are able to register a 90 model b16a in it because the engine was produced till 95, but you can't register it to a 96 ek as the engine was discontinued in 95.

kind of complicated but hope you understand.

the first b16a's were b16a1 not b16a2.. so b16a2 were from EG's, gen3 crx's onwards.

doesnt say anything about years of production, only if it was a factory option

Yeah so gen 1 is unable to be registered to eg's?

Legally only the b16a2s are able to be registered to eg's?

As far as my old-man memory goes...

GEN1 B16A (JDM) 160PS
(Integra XSi 88-90 I think)
(Civic SiR/EF9 89-91)
(CRX SiR/EF8 89-91)
"B16A"

I dont think there are any non-JDM GEN1 B16's.. so no such thing as a "B16A1" stamping.. unless EDM EF8/9 has them.

GEN2 B16A (JDM) 170PS
(Civic SiR-II/EG6/EG9 91-95)
(Del Sol SiR/EG2 92-97)
(Civic SiR/EK4 95-99)
(Ferio Si/EK4 95-99)
"B16A"

GEN2 B16A (AUS) 160PS
(Del Sol/EG2 93 - 97)
(Civic VTiR/EK4 95-97)
(Civic VTiR Coupe/EM1 97-99)
"B16A2"

GEN2 B16A (ASIA) 160PS (possibly 170Ps)
(Civic SiR EK4 95-99)
"B16A3"

and I've seen a "B16A4" also but that was a Canadian/US or Asian Market motor..

yea VT3C pretty much hit the nail on the head
gen 1 b16a finished at 91 in the sir crx, its got a cable gear box

another way to tell wat engine u got is by checking ur numbers under the "b16a#" on ur block

Well here are the numbers after the 5-
50 1990 160hp }
52 1991 160hp }4g Civic/CRX SiR
and
54 1992- 170hp 5th and 6th gen SiR, SiRII and CRX delsol SiR."

thats from the b16a FAQ thread
