So I just did the 60,000km service on my CL9, and couldn't help noticing that it says to only change the oil filter every 20,000km.

I always changed the filter at the same time as the oil on my old car. Is there a legitimate reason why the Euro needs the filter changed less often, or is it because it's in such a ridiculous position and would mean that servicing costs more (higher labour cost) to do it every 10,000km?

I have no problem leaving the filter on until the 80,000km service if it's fine to do so, but I've never heard of servicing intervals like this before and am a bit confused.

Is this from the Honda service booklet, because I highly doubt it would state 20,000km for an oil filter change when all previous models use the same filter and is required to be replaced every 6 months/ 10,000km (which ever hits first)
The filter has a usable life span once installed, it's piece of mind to get it replaced every oil change, I would be extremely suss if it wasn't changed every oil replacement.

Yes, the service/log book which came with the car.

It says the oil is done every 10,000km, and the filter is done every 20,000km. According to the book my 70,000km service is oil only, and 80,000km is oil plus filter (plus a few other things).

I don't remember it saying 20k, should be every 10k. But even if the book said 20k change i'd probably change it at 10k anyways. In harsher conditions i'd change it every 5-7.5k, eg tracking.

I just noticed this in the log book as well, it definitely says every 20000kms.

If you do 10,000km a year or less, I'd change it once a year. (Some people use to change oil filter at every oil change... sometimes at 3000km which I think is excessile for daily driving.)

If you do more than 20,000km a year, then change it at 20,000km.

Remember that it really is only harder for you to do it. Trained service technicians who do this day in day out can knock over a service in about a quarter of the time it would take someone with not alot of experience. So labour cost probably wouldn't be the reason. Plus, they would charge you for the extra labour anyway :D
