Weird sound when gearing down to first

Noticed it today when I'm gearing down and get to
1st there's a weird sound,not like a reving sound
but more like the sound of an ambulance.it is due
for a service but any ideas what it could be?

Could be a dying ISB (Input Shaft Bearing) if it's a high-pitched noise that changes tone based on the rpms.

If that's the case you'll have to have the gearbox removed/taken apart and have the bearings/seals replaced.

why are you gearing down to first? after 2nd gear should be neutral.

yep, shouldnt need to gear down into 1st
