ASAIK , anything that obstructs the drivers vision / other drivers on the roads vision in ANY WAY is illegal ( such as tachos , bright lights , dash tv's etc)

But last i heard - ANYTHING that is a aftermarket mod / against the ADR's is becoming illegal ?!?

your not supose to have any light in your car on as they can distract other drivers, You not even supose to have your interior light on when your driving!

They make some harsh laws....

The shift lights starts to annoy the hell out of u in the long run anyways. You'll end up turnin it off like i do LOL. I use to keep it on when cops are around i just turn the brightness off.

im not sure how it works if your car is an import tho? *might not work in your case*

for example my GENONE CRX, is a 1983 import and in the licence papers i have a condition 301 *from memory* which actually means my car is under the australian design rules, another words they can JUMP off a bridge if they want to tell me something on my car is illegal (to a point of course) but I believe if I wanted to put a monster tacho in there with a shift light and they wanted to pull me over for it, id argue the case as it could have come with the car when imported...

I think u could hide it near your gear lever and point it up, would be less obvious etc... but true - laws are becoming ridiculous lately - next thing you know we wont be able to have colourful stereos in the car because it will distract a driver 5 blocks away from you... DUMB!

I got in trouble for having an oil leak which they couldn't find on my car. In the end the bastards will get you for anything. They just write a ticket and say if you wanna content it you will have to goto court. I don't have time to fight a court case over $80. Best thing is try not to make yourself noticable enough for them to pull you over.

btw... your tacho with shift light they will just give you a ticket for not being 'Standard' and they will ask you for an engineer's certificate for it otherwise they give you a ticket. Just try not to make it obvious and you should have less problems.

I've noticed they love to defect cars as it is easier to chase real criminals (they shoot back).
