ever since putting the turbo in i have had a mystery oil leak around the turbo area. ive rewelded the drain bung and checked the feed line and its not them so i assume its the seals in the turbo.

the oil only leaks when the car is turned off but when its tuned on it wont leak a drop

any advise would be great

cheers

Degrease the WHOLE area, so its is TOTALLY clean from any dirt/existing oil. Go for a drive or whatever you need to to. Go back and check/trace for leak.

just to add some more information i just found out the oil feed kit i bought doesnt have a restrictor. so ive ordered one of them. and i have oil in my cooler piping but im running vent to atmosphere at the moment so is this indicating that good chance the turbo is shot?

Your turbo might be ok. What turbo? If your turbo has not got a in built restrictor, you could have solved your problem.

I had the exact same problem.

You need a 1mm restrictor even an 1.2mm was not small enough and kept leaking

That's what I'm running on my GT2871R

Once I installed it stppped leaking and yeah your turbo with be fine

You need to remember Honda motors push up 80+ in oil pressure unlike most normally boosted low comp motors that only push 40ish psi

Depends on size of oil feed line too. Used -3 line, no restrictor, except for in built one in the GT turbo. No issues.

turbo is gt2530 on a b18c

feed line is 4an and ordered a 0.8 restrictor.. will update once installed whether it still leaks or not.

cheers guys

ps luke gt2871 a good size for the b18c? my car feels like it dies in the ass up top end.. not sure if the turbos to small or if its because it is running stupid rich and untuned... if after the tune i realise its to small im thinking of the 2871

gt2530 is way to small mate

GT28 would be the smallest I would ever go

my research says the gt2530 is a hks turbo and is exactly the same as a gt28rs.. i dont know much about turbos but thats just what ive come up with on google / ebay

I'd go bigger if you want good safe power GT30

I think the gt2871 is great for B16's and that's what I'm running but B18's love GT30 IMO

The gt2871 will still work well on your B18 though

put the resistor in today... still leaking oil thought

its coming from around the sump and a little bit higher and it only leaks when the car is turned off. if its idling it wont spill a drop

its not the sump gasket because i replaced that when i first noticed the leak... the shop that welded my bung in used silver solder so maybe with the rapid heating and cooling it could of warped my sump?

just throwing out random ideas now

-8 or -10 oil return lines?

I dropped my sump on the weekend to fix my oil leak.. took me like 5 tries

not 100% had -8 but replaced it with one a little bigger so i assume -10? its free flowing and isnt kinked or bent too much... what do you mean it took you 5 tries was the gasket not seating properly or bung not welded properly?

Kept leaking through the gasket time and time again.. finally got her seals..

Re-flattened all the surfaces and cleaned, new gasket with liquid gasket and she's sweet now

replaced the gasket for the oil drain fitting on the turbo because it was moist... also went nuts with the toyota black sealant stuff around the bung on the sump and the leak slowed down alot.. will have to get it rewelded and hope for the best

I've got bolts welded to the inside of the sump so I can tighten the flange via screws if needed. plus then I can remove or change the flange should I need too

rem to make sure the return line is lower, as it is gravity returned. Any pressure in it will cause build up in the turbo and turbo leaks

exactly what i was going to say... but in reverse lol u need the return on the sump higher...dont want it returning into the oil...

i was told this by Mike Vine at Mike Vine Turbos, i purchased a kit and its built up back into the turbo it had sat around and
siezed.... i managed to fix this though...

ill have a look i did put the drain bung as high as possible on the sump im pretty sure it is in a good area... its leaking alot less oil then what it was, im on the dyno tomorrow so i might go nuts with my sealer just to fix most of it before i go then but i definitely need to get it fixed before next Wednesday when i go to willowbank because i dont want to be "that guy in the civic who dropped all the oil on the track" lol

YOu'll need more than 200HP to get close to 12's lol

I'm at 215HP with 9PSI hit'n 13.2

My guess would be 13.6 with 200HP

yeah 160HP = 120kw what's about right for a good nick tuned B18C7.

its all up to how well the turbo kits put together and how well you can drive :)
