hey there fellas
trying to do some detective work here

just wondering what engine the AUSDM civic vti came with?

did the sedan and coupe have the same engine? or are they different?

i believe it was the D16Y5 in the sedan Vti and was a D16Y8 in the coupe =]
so they are different

i didnt know there was a hatch vti?

im trying to identify a gearbox - and i need the D16y8 gearbox - but i have a suspicion that the box is actually from a D16y5 - which has the wrong gear ratios and final drive

is there any way to tell the difference other than pulling out the gears and counting the teeth?

ek vti's only came out as a coupe or sedan from 96-98, the sedan has a d16y5 an the coupe has a d16y8

All the SOHC D-series GBox's are interchangeable though right? Same gear ratios pretty much?

nah the gear ratios are completely different .. the gearbox's are differnt as well

the EG came with S20 and the EK came with S40

EG + EK are all hydro clutch (and are interchangable) - the older ones arnt - they are not interchangable

the best 3 gearbox's for D series are (in order)

D15b7 (AUSDM Gli and USDM del sol)
D16y8 (USDM EX and AUSDM VTI Coupe)
D16z6 (USDM EG Si)

mind you they can be slightly different for different markets =/

im trying to replace my D15b7 with a y8 or z6 gearbox ... i think the one in australia i am looking at is a y5 - which has crap gear ratios and final drive

and with the price they are over here in australia its about the same (if not cheaper) to have a D16z6 or D16y8 box sent over from america

its also hard finding one in australia because most wreckers beleive that all D series box's are the same - so getting a quote for what might be a D16y8 gearbox could in fact be a D16y5

the only way to be sure is to pull out the gears and count the teeth to find the ratios

this really sux lol

at least i know not to get a sedan gearbox and only look for coupe

what engine did the EG si come with? did we get the D16z6 in australia?

i believe the Si eg came with a D16A8
and about the D16z6 i dont think we did get it but not 100% on that...

yeah i dont think we got the D16a6 or the D16z6 in australia

dougie - the Y8 and Z6 are the best 2 gearbox for D series

Y8 has steel forks and slightly not as good ratio
Z6 has aluminium forks and slightly better ratio

unless you wanna pay postage from USA the only real option in australia is the D16y8 gearbox

but im having alot of troubles finding one

one wrecker doesnt know what the gearbox's are out of, another wants $950 for a D16y8 gearbox

Too much money.

DCZ 18C: Z6 only came in US. It's similar to our D16Y1 in power.

iv had a D series, a B series and a H series ...

so far i have had more fun squeezing power out of the little D than playing with either of the others

sure its not gona be all out powerful - but they are a hell of alot of fun to work on

minus rep for u

D series can be tough, just look at what JonSton achieved.

But nothing beats the soul of the B series :)

And H series is just ugly lol
