Hey guys,

I recently acquired a civic Si (D16A8), with approx 230000kms. I did a recent oil flush 2 days ago..i went and used 20w50..and it was all good. But then today i went and started it up and grey smoke started coming out of the exhaust. What could be the problem? im guessing the oil grade was way off.

What could be the problem to the grey smoke? ive read on the net that it could be cause theres too much oil? when we checked it today, it was a fair bit over the second hole on the dipstick. The oil mustve sunken over the 2 days. Will letting out some oil stop this cause?

Or should i just change the oil again? i wouldnt mind changing the oil. What would be the correct oil grade for my car? its a EG civic D16A8 engine with 230000kms..

Any help would be great..kinda freaked out atm lol
Thanks

When its warm does it still have grey smoke ? ur motor is old with abit of kms so it should take high grade oil , not thin oil

let out some oil untill you reach the correct level. see how it goes after you have done that.

well i didnt exactly let it get warm, just about 1/4 warm..it was starting from cold.
some moments it disappeared but as i hit the gas, it started appearing again..

so..the 20w50 would be the thicker grade right? so it should be okay? just too much oil in it?

yea the higher the better for older cars as the motor is more worn , so the thicker the better

just get it to the right level and let the car warm up full and test it from there , cold start usually has white smoke

Why dont u do some research on what oil it needs and more importantly how much to put it in it .....did u change the oil filter ?
If u dont even know how the rad fan works i think u need to sit down with the cars manual and do a bit of reading and learn the basics, or get someone to show you.

Yeah i know how much oil to put in, 3.8L but then again, i put a little bit more cause im sure its gonna burn oil. I did change the oil filter actually.
I dont get why youre giving my that attitude anyways..you must feel damn proud driving an accord aye lol

and fyi the car didnt come with the manual, if you had known sometimes car dont come with them cause the previous owner had lost them or misplaced them. I actually do know how the rad fan works, if you read properly it says that my friend was asking. And he's never owned a honda before, only holden VLs and currently a KE70 so yeah..why you acting like a smartarse?

I dont need that from you, all the other members have nicely helped without giving me that crap. Youre a noobie anyways..goodluck to you

You dont add more cuz u THINK its going to burn it...u add it IF it needs it......and do u even know u add more if u change the filter and less if u dont?

Its not hard to get a manual or at least an owners manual off the net..........

me a noob?.........thats funny..........your questions here show your extreme noobility......which is fine as everyone has to start somewhere.

Ive owned, driven, worked on cars, more times than youve played with your weiner.......

I suggest u come and ask questions BEFORE u do things, not after.

have a nice day

no i think you should give it a good flush and put in Honda FEO 10w30 - obviously the car isnt running as well as it should be
use Honda oil, Honda coolant and NGK plugs and you will get so many more kms out of the little D
everyone i have seen that use the wrong grade oil, or oil and coolant from supercheaps/repco end up blowing smoke or having problems at around 200kms mark

i would check the plugs, check the rocker cover gaskets on the plug tubes, do the above with the oil, and run a good fuel/injector cleaner additive + $40 worth of 98oct fuel of ur choice
if this doesnt work see your local mechanic

Alright, sounds good to me. I'll just change the engine, coolant, spark plugs, ang the injector cleaner addictive..lol $40 worth of 98oct too i guess..
its a pretty big trek for me to get those things, only know one place that has it LOL..
but its for a good cause so no worries:)

thanks the Saint.

you arent helping the situation niick, just ignore his posts.

Something that ive found with Hondas, over all other cars, is that they love OEM oil, and coolant.

Or spend some decent money on oil, like penrite, or step up to royal purple.

yeah sorry..
hmm yeah i was considering buying OEM oil today, but ended up thinking nah i'll give it another shot. I bought some nulon coolant and new sparks. Lets try that out first...
also i drained the oil yesterday and checked it again today and it was still a tad too much..
im sure once i drain some out, it'll be all good..
