busted cv boots? and all the grease is gone so now its dried up. replace them asap!

Best bet is the cv boots as meatball said, best to replace them asap as theyre probably out of grease as well..
Worst case scenario is they could seize while your driving, then its gg

Sounds like worn CV joints, if it's a metallic ratttling/knocking noise when turning, particularly under power. If the rubber boots on the CV joints have split, that will wear them out very quickly, due to the loss of grease, and dirt getting in. They should be replaced ASAP if they are worn.
Sounds like the infamous CV problems, check the joints and boots of them before they seize :eek:
