Hey guys,

im really stuck on ideas on whats happening to my car.

Drive FD1 with R18A in it, but lately i have really poor milage on the car.

i get around 10Km for 1 bar of fuel
atm the car is sitting at 6 bar down with only 140 KM on the clock

i thought it was the clutch but mech said clutch is fine

so now im thinking i should clean the intake

but any other suggestion??

Checked your tyres are delfated?

That affects fuel economy as well if your tyres are running at a lower PSI.

Tyre pressure and worn clutch can't affect your mileage that badly...sounds like poor a/f ratio. Are you running aftermarket controllers such as vafc? Otherwise could be a problem with the afm?

telling us about how many kms per bar doesnt reall help us, because all cars are different, and we dont know how many bars are in your car.

What you need to do is go to your local servo, one that you go to all the time, and fill the car up, till it clicks off the first time. dont fill it up any further than that. Reset the tripmeter, then do your normal drive till its empty again. Go back to the same servo and fill up to the first click. Take note of how many litres it was, and how many kms on the trip meter.

Then go Xlitres x 100/Ykm = Zl/100km

The problem could be a few things, Low tire pressure, old spark plugs, dead oxygen sensor, you drive it like you stole it, faulty AFM,

The car has about 20 bars and should give him about 25-30km per bar

perhaps you should look into replacing your fuel filter

You sure FD1 R18 and FD2 K20 has the same size fuel tank?

ej20i
03-10-2010, 10:58 AM
yea both have same fuel tank but obviously since fd2 is 2.0 and fd1is 1.8 i should be using less fuel
my tyre pressure is at 35
ive started cleaning my pod so we'll see how it goes

Arent you using a E-throttle? Maybe thats setting you back a bit =\

trism
03-10-2010, 12:22 PM
youve got a pod? of course youll be using more fuel.

More air going to engine=more fuel needed

I think that he means lately, mileage has gone down? if i didnt read wrong. I've got a i/e and my fuel consumption hasnt really changed at all, averaging 9-10L/100km.

xenonkuraz
03-10-2010, 12:56 PM
as ekay has stated i also have intake/exhaust and my fuel mileage hasn't changed at all, possibly even got better.

and yeah he means lately the mileage has decreased...not since the mods.

but the e-throttle could be your culprit, especially if you're on sp7 LOL

JohnO
03-10-2010, 01:04 PM
id say replace filter+engine oil first thing

ekay1
03-10-2010, 03:04 PM
Not that i have an e-throttle, but from what i hear sp7 seems to chomp the fuel! xeno, do you have a catback or muffler?

curtis265
03-10-2010, 03:55 PM
wow that's intense ... at this rate ur getting around 20l/100 or sometihng like that

maybe you're fuel pump is going crazy and runing at max..

and super rich?

ekay1
03-10-2010, 04:19 PM
20L/100km?? is that possible....? that means your gonna get like 250k max out of a FULL tank. Maybe you got a leak somewhere.

ej20i
03-10-2010, 04:34 PM
ive tried cleaning the intake
but thinking of changing oil soon and see how we go
how can i check if my fuel pump is going looney??

JohnO
03-10-2010, 05:14 PM
first got my car i did 20l/100km so its possible cause of its shit taiwanese filter... never owned a k20a before and thought that be reasonable at the time, changed everything and got up to 360km per tank.

xenonkuraz
03-10-2010, 09:21 PM
dang 360km per tank is still pretty s***house.

^ekay I just got a magnaflow muffler with resonator delete and replaced with high flow ones

curtis265
03-10-2010, 09:41 PM
Nah i was talking shit.

oh yeah, does it smell like petrol when u drive (warm engine) or is ur exhaust all black? (increased blackness suddenly?)

that's the sign of richness-

ej20i
03-10-2010, 11:37 PM
nah not really
im using fujita f5

Stig

Throwing any check engine lights?

ej20i
04-10-2010, 09:32 AM
nope, no engine lights
cleaned my air filter and cleaned the jacket and its finally blue again henry!
LOL!
and its not helping that its raining all the frikin time in sydney

Stig
04-10-2010, 11:44 AM
ahaha, i remember it was like really blue when i got it,

maybe try getting a co2/co reading for your exhaust gas or something, see if you are running rich cos that extra fuel has to go somewhere

curtis265
04-10-2010, 11:51 AM
oh yeah, is ur engine always cold?

black8thgen
05-10-2010, 01:39 AM
if ur running rich what can u do to fix it?

Poeter
05-10-2010, 05:52 PM
You can tune your ecu to fix up the richness. You will need to buy some sort of piggy back ecu such as VAFC or SAFC to fix up your air to fuel ratio.

However, if the car is bone stock with stock airbox and exhaust and it is still running rich, there may be something wrong with the engine or ecu or a sensor of some sort. From what I heard, the engine check light should come on if it's running TOO abnormally rich.

xenonkuraz
05-10-2010, 09:21 PM
or fix the thermostat/o2 sensor/afm if any are faulty

ej20i
05-10-2010, 09:29 PM
okay,
im running 40/18
what tyre pressure should i be putting in?
im running 35s and 37s

Stig
05-10-2010, 10:51 PM
tyre pressure shouldnt be affecting your mileage that much unless you are running a fully flat tyre everyday haha

i was thinking your o2 sensor being faulty but that hasnt thrown off a CEL

could be your thermostat if your engine is reading cold

ej20i
05-10-2010, 11:08 PM
but my temp gauge is increasing as per usual

Does your car feel sluggish or as good as new?

ej20i
06-10-2010, 09:49 PM
sluggish at times

xenonkuraz
07-10-2010, 01:47 PM
since the problem hasn't been resolved yet I recommend taking it to the dealer now

Stig
07-10-2010, 04:43 PM

Had my FD1 auto for 2 yrs now. Regularly getting 7.5 to 8 ltrs per 100km. Only mod is a K&N air filter (not pod).

RPS.13
14-10-2010, 10:52 AM
just got through my second tank in the ep3r... squeeze out 572km out of it.

from the calculations i'm averaging 8.69lt/100km

only mod is a cat back

ej20i
14-10-2010, 08:44 PM
yup, it was my intake being to dirty

damn dude. Did you use like almost every last drop?

The ep3's tank is 50 litres. Using your figures, you've used 49.71L

You've only got like a coke can of petrol left.

haha, yeah fuel light came on around 530km... was running late to work & didn't have time to fill up

ekay1
19-10-2010, 01:37 PM
^LOL!! and as 8th gen said, how do you clean the pod filter? Is there like some special spray or something or do you just wash it then let it dry thoroughly?

xenonkuraz
19-10-2010, 09:14 PM
I just tap out the dirt and/or vacuum my pods...I don't see it really necessary to wet them because then you have to dry them and sometimes they won't look the same

curtis265
20-10-2010, 09:56 PM
You could probably chuck it in the dishwasher

ej20i
23-10-2010, 06:13 PM
