Hey guys

I have a weird dash light/fuse problem

I got a viper alarm installed on the 22nd of December (not sure if this is relevant but anyway...)

On the 31st i went for a twisty cruise early morning like 2am, and i notice that when i turned on my lights my interior dash lights were totally dead. So i changed the 10amp fuse that controlls the interior dash lights to another 10 amp fuse and it blew straight away. So i got a 15 amp fuse and chucked that in and everything was ok.

Ok the 4th of Jan i changed my dash bulbs to some purply bulbs. The dash lights were all cool.

I drove to adelaide on the 5th, and as i was coming back today (8th) i realized when it started to get dark that again none of my dash lights were on. So i stopped in the middle of somewhere, and put in another 15amp fuse. Turned on lights, and they were good for about a minute, then they died. So i put a 20 amp fuse in there and it was good for about 10 seconds then it died.

So does anyone have any idea what is going on? I know i shouldnt be upping the amp rating on the fuse, but i just want my dash light back so i can drive at night.

heres the SHORT VERSION

Dash lights are not working, changed fuse to 10 amp and blew again, changed to 15, lasted about 2 weeks then blew, changed to 20 and blew straight away. Any ideas?

thanks

matt

i recon when they installed the alarm they took power from that cuircuit causing more current dran, so it blew the fuse, you say it was ok when you put in the 15A till you chabged the dash light bulbs. so your globes you installed are probably draing more that the stockies. anyway take it back to the installers and have em look at it they may have scewed up as well, you never know.

Hey guys, got the problemo fixed. I dropped my car off at the car audio place, and they checked the alarm, said that that wasnt the problem, but they could fix it for 40 bucks, ie they would find the problem then fix it....

Well as i was gettin a tram to work...i was thinkin...and it hit me, the DIMMER WIRE!!! i left it un insualted when i installed my head unit *doh. So then i get to work and im about to call the place and tell them not to worry about fixing it, then i get a call....telling me they had fixed the problem and it was the dam dimmer wire shorting!!

DAMMIT!! wasted $40!!!....ah well just another lesson to be learnt. So all is good now guys...cheerz
