I'm looking at purchasing a 2002 JDM S2K, I understand that they are rare in Australia but the appear to offer more features such as the GPS and Start button, not to mention higher power output...

I am seeing 2002 models in Melbourne being offered for ~55K should a JDM model be cheaper or more more expensive than this and if so by how much?

I understand insurance for a JDM model is more expensive but at the trade off for the extra options I am happy with the trade...

Does anyone know how I can convert the GPS over to work in Australia?

Any advice on this matter would be much appreciated...

The GPS does not work and from what people have been telling me, there is no way to make it work outside Japan.
Every S2000 comes with the Start Button (not only JDM).
Only 8 kw increase in power.

BTW I have a JDM 2002 S2K.

How are you gonna find a 2002 JDM model?

I have a 2002 S2000 Type V (VGS).
I think it's the only one in Australia.

Lots of big extra, anyone wants to make an offer?

lol, is it true with the 8hp extra power, that is a result of japans avaliablitiy of 100 ocatane rated petrol, and thus can tune their engines to a higher output?

All the AP1's stock have exactly the same internals, only the ecu's are slightly modified depending on what country your in. 8Hp might be a little too ambisious.

it's 8 KW, not HP...

The JDM S2K has higher compression (11.7) compared to what we get here(11.0).

toE : I got it from the trading post.

you might be able to use the screen to watch DVDs
but you need a DVD player
there might be a video input plug

I'm too lazy to check and I dont have a DVD player/ TV tuner, so there's no point of checking.

I know with the Soarers that you could use the Car Navi screen as a DVD Player if you hook it up, was a relatively simple procedure.

Boszyen - Your not the only one. I drove my friends silver JDM 2002 Type V just last week... DVD player, VGS Badging + Steering wheel. Quality Car to drive!
May I ask how much you paid for it? PM me if its not a problem! =]

Hahah Obviously not the *ONLY* one... What colour is yours, ill keep an eye out for it. Where in melb you from?

He got his car thro an importer, Yellow PLate.
I loved it. s2ks are the cosiest cars to drive... very responcive, luxurious.. i really love them.
The VGS system is soo fun.. especially on round abouts.. it works well the short, high placed shifter... you can literral drive the whole car with both wrists! its soo much fun! hehe

A JDM s2k will always be cheaper than an australian delivered since its am imported car...8kw is alot...rather than 174kw...your getting over 180kw..which is awesome for a N/A car...as long as you use top fuel 98 octane

That is a pretty general comment, unless you mean the s2k of the same year and model and condition.
An imported 2002 s2k with Variable Geared Steering (VGS - Type V) with DVD Navi and a few other bits a peices should and will fetch more than a 1999 model with a less ridged rear part of the chassis (?) and more KMs clocked on the odo! :)

Aren't stock S2K's putting out 176 kw?

:D

The price of a 2002 JDM S2000 Type V will be about the same with a 2002 AUDM normal S2000.

Yes it's 176 KW.... JDM has 184, which is very good for a 2 Litre N/A engine (92KW/litre).
