Hey,

Was working on the civic today, doing the wiring for the switch for my new foglights.
anyway, came across this loose black wire behind the mirror adjustment switch.
pulled it and yanked and noticed it was attached to something rather loose.

couldn't get it out any other way so I pulled the side panel off and got it out that way.

anyway, check the photos below. see if anyone can work out what it is?
Im mostly curious as it was a wire leading to where there would usually be more accessory switches, so maybe it has something to do with that.

it has a part code on there, but I couldn't find anything on google about it.

wiring harness plugged in the back of it?

theres not much more I can do to describe it.
has 2 small screws on the bottom of it, which I figured would have been pointless if i had tried taking it off.

any takers?
cheers,

doesnt loom OEM, probably something to do with an alarm or something aftermarket you have in the car. the loose black wire looks like its an antenna or something for reception

trace the coloured wiring harness to where it leads to

central locking box i think. Its the control box for an after-market central locking kit. Pull off your door panels and see if the central locking is OEM or not, or just unplug the box and see if it still works.

ahh I think that would make most sense.

I have aftermarket remote central locking.
I just pulled the whole panel out underneath and had a peak.
was wired with some fuses (not factory) and then spliced into wires running from the fuse box.

I'd say thats what the black wire is for too, the signal antenna for the remote.
hopefully i can carefully put it all back together with no wires pulling loose!
would hate for my remote locking to stop working!

thanks for the quick responses boys

id say it is the alarm as it looks like has an antenna wire coming out....... the little black one by its self

I'd say aftermarket alarm aswell

its definately just remote central locking, an alarm would have many more wires and any good alarm has all black wires and would be hidden much better.

The above part - IS part of an aftermarket alarm. Its not an OEM part.

I think he was saying that it's an aftermarket central locking unit as opposed to an aftermarket alarm unit. No doubt it's not an OEM product.

It's just interesting that there's so many wires on the loom. Would really have to trace them to know for sure.

If you're planning on keeping the car, get it sorted properly, don't guess. Trace the wires and find out exactly what it does, you don't want to be modifying and adding to circuits when you don't know what else is attached.

Aftermarket central locking unit.
You will find that loom has wires that go to actuators in the doors.

You could always test, by unplugging it and locking the doors?
If the other door follows the driver door, you know that central locking works and the box is something else?

EDIT: I installed something very similar into a friends 4runner this weekend.
