hey guys i've recently put in 2 12" subs into my boot, and yes it ate up the whole boot. i was just wondering is there a real big difference if i had it facing the seats? facing the boot it sits about 30 cm's away from the boot lid. if i turn it over it will be about 80 cm from the back seat. any ideas. cheers :)

the onli difference i noticed after i tried both ways, was that when it was facing out the boot, id get a bit more rattle from boot lid/boot latch. Facing it inwards the cabin gave just a bit more rattle with the upper parcel shelf.

ye i tried all the different ways last night. facing the boot there is a lot more rattle. i face it to the cabin there is still rattle just not as much.. but this time i run the risk of the sub sliding around and breaking off the zero gauge cables im running.. which is bloody annoying at the least. thanks for the help guys..

could you show us a picture of ur sub in the trunk? would like to see how much room it takes up since I was thinking of installing subs too.

Cheers!

Are there vents for the soundwave to travel? I would suggest doing away with the rear speakers as they screw up the imaging and staging anyway.

what exactly do you mean the rear speaker? get rid of the 6by9's ? hows that going to help? i was considering upgrading the stock ones. and ill get pictures up later 2night. got work till 1am.

dynamat is pretty expensive but it absorbs the vibrations.

U could put velcro on the bottom of the subs so they stick to the carpet and don't move.

Should get a custom boot done makes it look really neat and look like its meant to be there. There are a few places that can do it cheap these days. I'll post some pics up of mine soon.

ye i've got about 6 sheets left over im going to do the bottom shelving when i take the sub out to put in 6by9's it'll make my life easier.. as for cleaning up the wiring it's all behind the sub and back seat so there are no visible wires when i open the boot.

that would be great if you could hook me up with a place that does them for cheap.. as for the way the subs sitting i want to get a custom box made but don't want to pay too much.. and my current subs as you can c are ported really well.. am i going to loose a lot of bass if i went for a custom box? im sorta new to the whole sound side of things.. any help is appreciated. cheers.

I'll get the guys number for you and put it up here. I lost about half my boot so about the same amount as if you have the twin boxes.

in what context do you mean the same amount? as in the same amount of bass or the same amount of boot space will be lost?

Sorry meant the same amount of boot space will be lost

then whats the point of getting a custom made one..? unless it will help prdouce more bass since there will be more air room.. how about the rattle..? does a custom built one increase or decrease?

itll save you boot space if anything. dont wanna sound too critical or anything but youve got alot of wasted space between the rear seats & subbox. you're probably not too concerned about maximizing boot space but if you wanna get back nearly double of what you have now, then have a moulded box than rests directly up against the seats. (think of it as if you could push your box back about ~30ish cm, THATS how much more room you can get)

not 100% sure what you mean by 'unless it will help prdouce more bass since there will be more air room'. its a little brief & general to interpret in any way..
'more bass production' has more to do the complete setup than JUST a custom box. gotta think about variables like the subs used, car environment/acoustics, box volume & port tuning frequency, cars resonant frequency & a bunch of other technical elements. tho having said that, output would be more or less the same (assuming you have the same volume in air & fitted the same ports tuned with the same frequency). the point of it tho is you gained a bunch of bootspace back.

rattling has nothing to do with a custom box. that depends on how you've treated the car. you mentioned your $200 boot/trunk pack (btw for $20 more you couldve got a bulk pack) hasnt 'paid off', what do you mean? you could be using it the wrong way or having the wrong expectations of it.. ill explain further when you do..

My custom box is right up against the back seats. The main reason if a custom box is just to make the installation look neater than just haven a standard box

can you get a few photo's up of it please.. and also how much it costs?

well when purchasing these subs i was told that because the box itself is ported really well it helps produce that powerful bass. so i'm thinking if i change the box into a custom am i still going to get the same amount of bass. the boot/trunk pack actually cost me 150 the 200 was a typo my bad. hasn't paid of in the sense that it's made my boot lid extremely heavy and hasn't really cut off a lot of the rattle. also wear my rear brake light sits ( the one inside the car) the casing of that seems to rattles heaps hitting against the window.. i've stuffed a bunch of foam in there it seemed to help a bit but when pumped it still rattles. i'm going today to get my amp tuned as i don't know how to tune it.. its going to cost me 30 bux hope it pays off.once its tuned i'm going to see what i can do about the rattle. and if i have enoguh money left over i want to get a custom sub box built.

30 bucks? Most places should do it for free. I paid $250 and had to supply my own material so all up including my sub and amp I paid $350. Which isn't a bad price. I will get pics up this arvo

so i'm thinking if i change the box into a custom am i still going to get the same amount of bass.

itll sound the same ASSUMING the custom box has the same volume & the same ports tuned at the same frequency as your current ones. if not then it obviously itll be a different story. im also assuming your looking to get custom ported boxes made too, not sealed ones.

also wear my rear brake light sits ( the one inside the car) the casing of that seems to rattles heaps hitting against the window.. i've stuffed a bunch of foam in there it seemed to help a bit but when pumped it still rattles.
thats not really a fault from your dynamat or subs, that problem (light casing being loose) wouldve been there before you got your system. sooo, use more foam (or thicker foam), tighten the screws, use rubber washers, use superglue/liquidnails/sikaflex in certain areas, use a thin line of felt between the casing & window, whatever it takes.

same deal with the parcel shelf (both metal part & interior plastic trim part).. dynamat both to make them more rigid and stop them from resonating/flexing (especially the plastic trim). no doubt theyll still rattle against each other after that, and thats when you use the same soft material as above and wedge/stuff em between any areas where they make contact. that should take care of ANY rattles from the rear.

tuning should be free. did the installers not tune it before they gave the car back to you?.

oh and where abouts in aus are ya located buddy?

kural7
19-10-2010, 01:38 PM
im located im melbourne vic.. as for the tuning i purchased a soundstream amp from these guys but i didn't the installation and wiring all my self. so when i whent back there and asked for a tune they turned around and said 45 bux. i said forget it and he goes we'll make it 30. anywai i got it done today. it seemed to be clearer bass now. i also got to upgrade my stock 6by9's which is gona set me back a few hundred again cause i need an amp to run them.

hey best to get it facing the boot. the rattling noise is most likely coming from your number plate.
try this before u do anything else. just get a plastic bag.....scrunch it up.......jam it nicely behind the number plate......if u do it right the bag should never fall out.

see if that stops the rattling noise.
the reason why u get it to face your boot is so the bass can bounce off the boot giving a better doof. =D
let me know if it works.

kural7
19-10-2010, 08:53 PM
i have alreadi jammed like plastic in there.. u know that hard foam u get when you purchase something new in a box.. i stuffed that in there.. it's stopped most the rattle from the number plate. i was thinking of taking it off and sticking letters on there. would that be illegal? technically im still displaying the right characters at the right size? and my back tray where the 6by9's are sitting rattles a shitload. i wish i could just get rid of it and make it a sorta hatch.. that would be soo kool..

white_ep3_civic
19-10-2010, 09:44 PM
Yes that number plate idea is extremely illegal.

kural7
19-10-2010, 10:15 PM
why is it illegal for..? like its readable and legit..? damn i hate aus laws sometimes.. man that looks awesome.. but you ahve to keep in mind i got 2 12 inch subs.. you got what looks like a 10 inch to me.. does that even produce enough bass for the inside of your car?

white_ep3_civic
20-10-2010, 05:04 PM
It's illegal cause it doesn't meet the rta regulations. It need to be reflective so when a speed camera or any kind of camera it won't be able to see your number plate properly. Na it's a 12 inch and its not too bad. Gives clear and deep bass. I'm pretty sure you could get a custom install with both subs and have the amp hidden behind them.

ye for the time being im just going to live with the sub sitting out like it is. can't afford a custom box atm. cheers for all the help..
