I can believe it, i have only had the car for a couple months and truely enjoying the driving it.
The other day someone rammed into the back and now the damage is under assessment.

How much do you guys think the damage is, or maybe a write-off?
Other party has admitted fault (shannons insurance), but still so much hassle for me..

So sorry to see that mate.
shit man, that's major structural damage right there! Is the other quarter panel damaged like that?
Depending on your agreed value, I'd say write off for sure.

Repairable write off mate!

Definately write off, my euro had less rear damage than that at it was written off, unfortunately.
Sorry to hear but you will get paid out and hopefully you can look into another car

so i guess i can expect a payout then.
i'm insured market value.

is it better to claim through their insurance company or mine.
my insurance says my premium will be affected later on even though i'm not at fault. sigh..

If that happens, just go elsewhere.

Sorry to see the damage mate.. Well if its their fault, you dont have to pay any premium or your premium won't increase later on you purchase another car... By the look of it, i am definately sure its gona be write off. I don't its even safe to drive after they repair it, it is not going to be the same as original...

your not at fault, your insurance will not ne affected
so in this case you would want a write-off claim so you can get a payout and possibly keep the car

just got a call today from insurance company (budget direct)
it's a write off.. RIP CL9.. sad to see it go.

now apparently i have to wait for another department to work out my pay out, gosh..
hopefully they don't try rip me off.

In the redbook, i don't see 2004 Honda Accord Euro Lux Sports (ie. with factory lip kit)
6spd 120k's. also, the figures look really low. ie. i won't be able to get one like mine for those prices..
what about on road costs?
anyway, will let you guys know once i get a figure from them.

how much would you guys think i'll have to pay to buy back for parting out? doubt it'll be worth the hassle right.

was ur insurance policy an agreed value or market value? it should be written on your insurance papers.

natnat
14-10-2010, 09:32 PM
mine was written off in august 2010 and got paid out at agreed value of $29500 while the market value was only $20k-$24k for a 2006 luxury auto. mainly because the quoted repair cost was $23k (within the market value range) and apparently they did well writing off my car because they fetched $11k (29500-11000=18500 out of pocket... instead of 23k but they would chase the damage from the other party anyway) from the auction of the damaged car. my two cars are due for renewal this month and i am paying extra attention to the details now :) especially the agreed value amount.
http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?137923-Good-Bye-CL9....

u may need to negotiate with them to pay you out near the highest upper market value of your car, arguing that it may not be possible to find a replacement similar to yours at their pay out figure, etc, etc...

minircc
14-10-2010, 09:42 PM
car is insured market value.
just checked, there is no stated value on policy.

minircc
14-10-2010, 09:45 PM
i'll definitely negotiate to ensure i get a fair payout.
natnat, that's a fantastic outcome. i will consider agreed value next time. never really thought about it previously. thought it wouldn't happen to me.. lol

do you think i'll get a better outcome claiming direct with their insurance company rather than mine?

natnat
14-10-2010, 09:59 PM
not sure if you could get better outcome claiming direct from the other party's insurance... but you need to consider all the hassles if they make it difficult for you as they don't act on your behalf. while your current insurer should help you and take care of all the hassles, and chase the compensation from the other insurer.

i never took the agreed value / market value seriously in the past until that accident. i always focused on the cheapest insurance..

i had my wife's car (a 2 months old toyota yaris) burnt in a basement car park along with other people's 15 cars in 2006 and chose brand new replacement despite 2 months wait at that time (the yaris was so popular at that time!)

was thinking of a pay out but decided a replacement because the agreed value less $2k excess was a lot less than what we paid for the car.

Budget Direct are offering $15k for my car.
2004 Honda Accord Euro Luxury Sports 6spd, with tint and reverse parking sensors. 120,000kms.
Was in immaculate condition prior to the accident, with a very straight body, no dings and dents.

Is that fair? i think it's quite low. i don't think i'll be able to buy another one with that money.
i have challenged the amount, but don't know what they're going to come back with.

if you are not at fault you do not have to use your insurance company to claim damages, they act as an agent. You can also use a lawyer.

A lawyer will
1. Independently value your car - the benefit is that insurance companies get their cars valued by their own assessors and usually value it lower to minimise payout fees.
2. Cost you nothing - lawyer's take a proportion of what they claim from the insurance companies. Therefore it is in their best interests to claim back as much as they can on your behalf. They will include their own fee in ADDITION to what they claim back from the other insurance party.
3. They can and will likely also include things like stamp duty etc.

When i got hit by a drunk driver in 2004, i went with a lawyer instead of Just Car Insurance. I cancelled my insurance policy once it was deemed that the accident was not my fault and was refunded the balance of my premium. I then contacted a lawyer who claimed back more than market value for my 1996 Integra VTiR because of the low KM's and immaculate condition. They also negotiated a buy back of the wreck on my behalf (my request) and claimed, rego, transfer fees, stamp duty etc for my new car. IIRC their own fee was about $800, which they too claimed from the other insurance company.

Know you rights, you have a lot, especially when you have done nothing wrong.

tknova
20-10-2010, 07:01 AM
I would personally steer clear of using lawyers and continue with your insurance company - That's what you pay them for.

The car is within 10 years old and

Continue to negotiate with Budget, Have a look for similar vehicles on carsales for a 04 euro lux and present that to budget direct.

I've also got access to the glass guide via work - I've done a valuation with 120k on the clock.

RRP Trade Low Trade Retail
Glass's Value $40,800 $10,800 $12,300 $16,200
KM Adjustment ($346.00) ($578.00) ($1,155.00)
Value of Options
Adjusted Values $40,800 $10,454 $11,722 $15,045

So, via the glasses guide, 15k is a reasonable payout. The redbook/glasses guide is a guide ONLY. Use the real sales of the market to negotiate a payout for your vehicle, like carsales ect - Budget are going to recover the cost anyway.

Mine was a Euro Lux Sports. ie. had the factory lip kit etc, as well as all lux features.
Should be a few thousand more.

anyways, the insurance companies are sorting it out. they can take their time.

$500 to pay for transfer and stamp duty.

i was working for a honda dealer in 2004-2005. i am not sure if there was any Luxury Sports. It would have been Luxury with additional accessories fitted. so, you should point out to the insurance company that those body kit costs quite a lot.

Just be careful for Insurance company that doesnt want to pay you enough for write off car because they cant sell the car afterwards under the new law:

HunterZero

Yeah, there was no Lux Sports model. It would just be a Lux with body kit option fitted.

Normally your insurance policy should record any expensive options such as the body kit, as they affect the value of the car, and can affect your premium. You might be in for an argument with the insurer if the body kit wasn't listed on the policy.

handles great, a little more omph than euro and better fuel economy.

worked out well in the end i guess.

congrats for the change! welcome to the darker side :p

you'd be surprised with the abundance of aftermarket / mods options for Jetta as due to the popularity of the Mk5 GTI in Europe, USA and here. Most of the mods for the GTI are compatible for Jetta.

it's a totally different feeling vs CL9, Jetta feels pretty solid, the CL9 felt a bit light and the steering wheel is rather skinny (CU2 is nice and thicker).

Which Jetta did you get ???

I had a late 2006,2007 model 2.o FSI tiptronic in Silver, which I loved, and chose over a CL9,as it did come with much more equipment as standard.

When it was written off,my choice was to get another,or a Euro, and for a change,I went with the Euro.

Euro seems more powerfil,as Jetta was petrol NON turbo, and a little bit nicer to drive.

However Jettas boot is much better shaped, and rear seat legroom is better.

Both excellent cars,ENJOY...I miss mine a little bit....

hey antony, seems like we switched seats :)

yeh, i went from an 04 Euro 6spd to a 07 Jetta fsi 6spd. Same as you, for a change. I have always liked both.
I find the ride of the jetta surprising good. handles well, feels planted, but also absorbs bumps nicely. very nice stock suspension setup.

and like azn_k3nt mentioned, abundance of after market parts and spares.

i also like the fact that the side mirrors dip when you put it in reverse so you can see the curb :)
ah.. the little things that make me smile.. haha

and both drivers and passenger seats have pull out drawers under them for extra storage.

but all in all, it was a very tough choice for me because i was going to get the updated CL9.
basically it was whichever i came across the 2nd hand market in good condition and reasonably priced. can't be too picky right.. otherwise i'd buy new.

I am sure Jetta is a good one too. Do you mean side mirrors dip when change reverse gear for your jetta as well? This feature is in accord Euro Cu2...not sure it was in CL9.

Enjoy your new jetta :)

31-03-2011, 12:56 PM
My mirrors in my Jetta did not dip,but the ones in my Euro do.

A few things which the Jetta did come with and the Euro does not are the automatically dipping rear view mirror, automatic wipers and lights, and the lights which stay on in the darlk after you switch off,as well as those drawers under the seats.

However ,Euro makes up for it,with things like the 6 stack CD,10 speakers, chrome exhausts, dipping mirror, bigger wheels...so at the end of the day,it comes down to personal choice.

The Euro also has a bigger engine, but the Jetta uses less fuel.

I think the CL9 and MK5 Jettas are very similae, and were cross shopped by many prople.

Maybee the bigger CU2 will be more similar to the new, also bigger Jetta A6...I cant wait to check out one of those,as well as the facrlifted Euro later this year...

What colour is the Jetta ???

Just wanted to give you guys an update after a few months of owning the Jetta.

2007 Jetta 2.0FSI 6spd vs 2004 Euro Lux 2.4L 6spd

CONS
- 2.0FSI engine not as smooth as CL9's 2.4l.
- required to purchase a VAG as part of ownership to diagnose problems (for us enthusiasts)
- timing belt needs changing whereas CL9 has timing chain
- jetta sits a bit too high when stock, especially the rear.
- engine sounded like a diesel for a little while, but VAG picked up issue and it was an easy $80 DIY fix (cam sensor replaced).
- every time i switch climate control to re-circulate air, the aircond automatically swtiches on (standard, i don't like that)

PROS
- very solid built quality (not one creak or rattle.)
- much more fuel efficient
- better power delivery and slightly better handling / ride
- no more radio ringing noise (as i had the pre-update CL9 which drove me crazy)
- no lift off jerkiness when still in gear
- very easy DIY service (super easy access to oil filter ie. at front facing right down)
- a lot more standard features (ie. storage compartments under drivers and passengers seat, boot power output for travel fridge, auto wipers, auto headlights, auto dimming rear view mirror, climate control etc.)
- with rear seats folded down i was able to fit an inner spring single mattress flat in boot that i needed to drive home.

Overall, both are very good cars in their own right.

I am enjoying my Euro, but also loved my Jetta...

Both good looking too, which is better ???

I am not sure.

I think Euro is more refined,Jetta has more toys to play with, and VW are much more aggressive than Honda these days.

and the VAG is wayyyyyy easier to tune/mod compared to CU2..
God Bless America for the VW tuning scene

VW... most things are controlled by VAG COM... power window, lights, door locks.... buy VW (the performance cars, not the bluemotion or non turbo 4 cylinders) for fun.

Honda... straight uncomplicated electrical work... switch, relay, light, done. buy Honda for reliability but less fun.

At the end of the day,I think RELIABILITY and BUILD QUALITY are more important than fun...
