96 spec jdm dc2r header run a bigger collector compared to dc2 vtir. The same collector size with jdm 4-1 header from 98 spec. Not too sure about the runners size.
It wont bolt up to stock dc2 vtir cat

in other words. why would u get a vti-r 421 header when u can get 4-1 jdm type r headers.(cheap quality headers).

IMO the upgrade would be worth it as the DC2 VTiR runs a 2" cat (!!!) so if he's running an aftermarket/custom exhaust then the 2" cat would be a bottleneck.
dont expect neck-snapping 20KW gains or anything but will help.. better to get a JDM Type R 4-1 yes but for $500 IMO the type R is a bit expensive..

why would you need to when you dont need to

and if he wants to change the cat back later to ANY jdm exhust will be a straight fit

guess you like the hassles/time/rough as job and spending extra money
