Hi,

I have driven Toyota cars since I got my license more than 12 years ago. Good reliable cars but I really like the Jazz.

I am buying a Jazz in the next few days (I am in Melbourne and has already sold my 8 year old Corolla privately). Wanted to get a Jazz limited edition (1.3) but to my surprise it doesn't have side airbags (not even as an option)! The 1.5l version costs $6k more, which for me is way too much because for that much I think a Civic or a Corolla is better value.

So, I will have to get a GLI manual ($17,490 RRP), and get the optional safety pack ($1000) and bluetooth ($500). How much would it be around? I also need tinted windows. Given that the limited edition is RRP at $18,490, I am hoping I can get what I want for around that amount (or cheaper if possible). Effectively giving up the fog lights and alloy wheels (offered by the limited edition) for the optional safety pack. What do you think? How much would be realistic and reasonable?

I went to a Honda dealer near Chadstone shopping centre yesterday. The sales lady was good to talk to, but her manager effectively asked me to leave, suggesting that my offer is too low (I told them that I am ready to pay a deposit if they are willing to do business). I was quoted $19.5K for the above car, and after some bargaining they still want something "close to 19K". I "hinted" that it would be better value to get a $21K drive away Corolla (with free 7 airbags + capped service for 3 years!) rather than spending 19K on a Jazz. The sales lady's manager simply told me to get a Corolla. Well, I said alright, and politely thanks for the sales lady's time and not even look at her manager anymore and left. Not happy with this guy at all. Can someone suggest a OK-to-deal-with Honda dealer please?

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. That sounds great, although I am not confident to get that figure after having talked to 2 dealers already. 17K would only get me a second hand or ex-demo Jazz I think (and ultra-hard to find one that has the safety pack - I need the rear side airbag for more protection for the kids in the back!)

Here is a list of things I wanted:

- Jazz GLI Manual Silver
- Safety Pack
- Bluetooth
- Tinted windows
- Floor mats

October promotion includes free on-road cost, 5 years warranty and metallic paint.

$19K is what the dealers want.

Personally I think 18.5K is acceptable (I understand that small cars' profit margin is slim, but I just hate those smiling greedy "sales manager"). In the next few days I am going to Ringwood Honda, Ferntree Gully Honda and perhaps also Berwick Honda and see how it goes. I need the car like now because I have already sold my car and am currently driving a borrowed car (from my brother) to work.

By the way, how come NO dealer has a current model in manual for test drive? The two I went to only have auto for demo. Is their manual gearbox that bad and too shy to let people know?!

Any good Honda dealer suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I suggest Eastern Honda or Yarra Honda....my boy got his car from Yarra, its a manual jazz and is great though his is a VTi.
Eastern do lots of sales, they may have more space to bargain...

once a year day sale is on today at Honda...if you didn't manage to get there, go to Yarra Honda tomorrow as they're open and ask for Jason. He will look after you :)

Thanks for your suggestions guys. I saw the recently honda promotion (the $750 voucher + extended warranty + roadside assistance) on the web site. I went to the ferntree gully dealer on the weekend. They listed the Jazz GLI manual at $16,888 !!!!! $700 cheaper than all the dealers! Also, they fully honoured the $750 honda accessory voucher, whereas the dealer at Chadstone rang me last week trying to get my business, but the sales lady did not honour the promotion, saying that it is up to the dealer to decide how this $750 promotion is "calculated" after considering all the cost involved!

One dealer asks for $16,888 delivered, one asks for $17,490 delivered. One has an extra $750 voucher, one does not. Which one would you choose? Clearly I went to the ferntree gully dealer and tried to make a deal. I want a manual Jazz that comes with the safety pack ($1000 extra). Sadly the dealer does not have any in stock. I was prepared to spend $18K on the car and my credit card is ready - I have sold my old car already so I need a car really quick.

Well, at the end I didn't buy a Jazz. I bought a manual City for the list price of $19,288 (listed price at ferntree fully, while other dealers are advertising for $19,990). I used the $750 voucher to get bluetooth, floor mat and the weather shields (for all four windows). No other dealer who I have spoken to can do it with this price. I hope the City would not disappoint me. It is certainly bigger than the Jazz and also comes with a 1.5l engine. Only cost a small premium ($18K vs $19.2K).
