i'm looking at getting an old school civic (cos i think they look mad as) and was wondering what engine i should put it for a bit more poke. i've been told a honda city turbo but how much are they and how hard are they to get? i was thinking maybe a B16a or a D16a but how would it go fitting one of those in? can anyone recommend anywhere in brisbane area to speak to someone about it?

which engine you choose is all dependant on your budget... D16 is cheaper but less powerful but still a good engine.

Either D16Y8 or Honda city turbo II engine. None of the DOHC engines will fit without firewall modification (IE you cant road register it).

with a honda that old the even something like the d16y4 would make a power increase, althought i have that engine and am not happy with its power output.
basically if you have a choice and the dosh buy the b16a, its a dohc vtec, u cant realli go wrong

Honda City Turbo Motor. You could prob. buy an imported honda city for the same price as a d16 front cut :D. A friend of mine has one, very good on fuel.
There was one on the forums somewhere.

oh well this project has been put on hold for the moment. but anyway, so the city turbo engine sounds the go? does the engine bay require much modification to install into the civic? it would be nice to stay N/A but it will be a second car now so cost is going to play a big part.
on a side note, can anyone tell me of any other hondas that are factory turbo other than the city? i can't think of one to be honest!

CTR Coupe could be right, about the firewall modification but uncertain....
There were a couple of guys here in WA who swapped a ZC into the Old Civic but mainly for track purposes. Apparently it was uncatchable in its class. But I don't know the details of the swap, if structural modifications needed to be done, however it was street class registered - so makes me wonder if they CAN modify structurally... maybe it will fit with some big mucking around but without modifying the firewall.
dunno...

I saw somewhere online someone put a city turbo in there without major structural modifications, can't remember where I saw it but it was in Australia

there is no point in putting a city turbo ii engine in an old civic, as u may as well buy a city in the first place, city's are lighter than civics, nless u go about some weight reduction, which could then again be done on the city too.
Ive been keeping my eye out for a city turbo II, i dont want the I, II way better imo.
if you check out www.citryturbo.com or .com.au ull find a honda city forum which has links pics of a magazine article where someone has but thecity turbo engine in a 72 civic as i recall. Little green thing it is, nice looking too.

"Swift motors" rotate in the opposite direction to Honda motors (except the S2000) - forget it.
City tubo motors are almost extinct.
Use an EN1 crank to bore it and Honda Goldwing 73mm pistons to increase diameter (from 72mm) and bump the compression. Get a decent webber carb and custom headers plus a 1 3/4 inch exhaust. Try amd get a Mugen R1 or Yoshimura (?) cam grind.
I got a similar setup with twin-carbs producing 63KW ATW - and I know that people have done a lot better than that with the mugen quad-carbs etc.
Nowadays - I'd lean towards the SOHC VTEC motors for a engineered road car - 130bhp @FW iplus more from bolt ons will get you close to 3x the original EB's output.

ROFLMAO!!!! :D
Major structural mods? Get real!!!!!
It bolts in and can be engineered with mods to 1 mount (you cant use the SBC's top mount) and brake improvements.
Hell - even the CRVTEC powered gen 2 Civic in Malaysia only had a roll cage dropped in and it was producing in excess of 200bhp NA.

Hontoys have some replica mugen R1 cams. Seriously if you really like old civics then you wouldn't change the engine :D carbi monsters rule.
