I'm looking to buy 4 new tyres, and Advance tyre have RE001's for around $230.

Question though, 215/45/17 91Ws are only $190 and 225/45/17 94Ws are $229.

Is it worth getting the 215's instead so there's less sidewall flex?

Are you running stock wheels?

If not what is the width of the wheels

But 215 on a stock 7" is fine, but make sure the load rating of the tyre meets teh requirements for your vehicle.

yea i'm running stock euro sport rims. it says on wiki. 91 = 615kg and 94 = 670kg..I'm assuming it should be fine considering my car is only 1.4 tonnes

having lower load rating is technically illegal if <91. 215 with 45 will have less circumference distance, hence the speedo reading will be different from what you actually are going at. ie: you are actually going a tad slower than what you see :p

Rolling diameter of 215/45 R17 is smaller, so your speedo will overestimate a bit more, and your odometer will run slightly faster. You might notice that that the car will feel slightly more willing to accelerate, but the revs at a given sustained speed eg cruising at 110kph will be slightly higher.

With the tiny difference in sidewall between 215 and 225, you won't notice any real difference in handling.

I'd suggest staying with the 225/45 R17.

Oh, and I just thought I'd add - If there's one thing it's not worth cheaping out on, it's car tyres. Buying the right tyres rather than a budget option is ALWAYS worth the money.

Wise words.I always buy the best tyres i can afford.I'd have no problem spending $300 a corner for tyres.

I paid $300 a tyre for 225/40/r18 Yokahama A-Drive R1... They are good for allrounders, but as a high performance tyre they are not up to my standards.
I have heard that the RE001's are a bit average in the wet. Any truth to that?
