i have just gained access to a CRV with a manual B20 motor in it for only $200

but im not going to bother with it if its too much hassle...

what would be involved in installing it into an EG8 (efi)

will i have to upgrade brakes?

what price do the b20 usually go for?

would it be a worthwhile upgrade without the B16a head - or do they need the head swap to be drivable in the smaller car?

you don't have to upgrade the brakes, but im guess it would be good if you could?

if you got the b20 with gearbox for 200 only i would probably just put it in as is if you have a tight budget?
maybe later if you can do a vtec conversion on it?

You cannot use the b20 gearbox. You would need to source another b-series gearbox. A lot torquier motor than your d15 and matched with a short geared b-series gearbox, can be quite fun.

yeah but its still a question of money and time - if it was a fairly simple bolt in job than i might have been inclined to go for it
but i have already spent alot of blood, sweat, tears and money into the car the way it is

curses on being a poor student - if i had a job i would be jumping on it and building a B20vtec =)

im just gona stick with it until i sell it =)

You'll need B-series swap engine mounts for a start. $400-500. GBox from B16A $600-900 depending on condition and hydro/cable optional LSD etc. Labour could be $1000+. There's probably more issues to list. So depending on your 'cheap' budget you might be blown out of the water right away on the swap.

B20 block normally sells for $400-600. Whole engine I have no idea, never really seen anybody buy one except with a mind to do a B20VTEC swap.

Most common engine heads you'll find here are JDM B16A, B16A2, B18C2, B18C7 or JDM B18C. Cheapest is probably any of the B16A or the B18C2 and these will probably go for $300-500 depending on internals/condition/mods. I managed to get a complete JDM B16A head for $130 but it had had burnt oil run through it and needed lots of work to reco.

I'd recommend upgrading your breaks to 262mm at least if you're going to do any swap.

Otherwise I'd buy it if I were you. Good investment. You can at least sell it for profit if you don't swap it :)
