did, but then 16 y.o. kids got their hands on them, bought bodykits for them and ruined their image overall. Then superwide bodykits went out of fashion and have looked ridiculous ever since.
It probably has something to do with NA and it's lack of tuning potential, and the FWD factor too. Performance aside, there was no real performance in the honda brand (type R's aside), just cars manufactured and then modified to look like they were fast. I suppose that is rice.
I personally call anything fast and japanese rice anyway, evos, s13/14/15's, R32,33,34's, sti's...

How does someone throw a spoiler onto a Camry and feel good about it?
i supose the satifaction of that would come when they take it off realizing how rediculous it actually looks and how little it improves their performance
In my opinion rice is a combination of distastefull modification combined with try hards that think their cars are fast because they have massive racing wings and "fully sick body kits and bonnet scoops" even though they still have a 6 inch gap under their guards, a stock motor and Bob Jane allrounders lol my 2 cents

I reckon it's the V8 loving bogans that created the racist rice term. I like Calais before any car and im half asian due to their comfort, and thought only old chinese men drove honda's till i got an 08 civic and loved it and now an accord euro i really appreciate the jap cars so i get the shts at those 'rice' terms - it's degrading even if it was not meant to be.
JohnO

It is all the Aussie and American muscle car fans that come up with the terms. They also came up with Eurotrash. I think its an insecurity thing. They're the type of guys who try to make themselves look big because they got small wangs.

I find it hard to understand how the majority of bogans can afford the fuel bill for a v6 or v8. It must cost them a fortune considering alot of them like to drive the older models which of course have even worse fuel economy..
Ive also always wondered how the hell they can afford to buy the big HSVs, FPVs etc. Alot would be loans I reckon, there is a boofhead at my work who took out a $45000 personal loan to buy a brand new HSV and he thought nothing of it :L Piece of shit will loose its value so quickly and it is so damm ugly and bulky. Give him a few years and he will wonder why he still doesnt have a house..

tbh i like ricer cars. my definition of a ricer is just a car with styling over performance. http://designercars.nl/biler/Honda-Civic-171.jpg this civic is example of rice cooked to perfection it has got everything a ricer would want wing, gills, full bodykit and whatever, we can also see it lives in a riceyard from the cars next to it. with all that the car does not exactly go any faster, the aerodynamics would have changed but it wouldnt make that much of a diffrence to driving a stock civic when your actually in it. some people might start calling it clean or w.e but how the **** do u clean rice when it has already been cooked?
anzai
02-11-2010, 12:23 AM
i used to cop a lot of shit people at work saying my civic is a rice burner bwah bwah
i ask them the definition of rice and one ignorant moron who drives a 2.4l camry said "your little 1.6l honda civic" and others would go "honda and any japanese cars which are modified"
i then showed them a few photos, here's some:
http://no1pony.com/images/Poor_BMW_Ricer.jpg
http://www.remarkablecars.com/main/ford/2002-ford-006.jpg
i ask them, are these rice too? they go "no, there not japanese".
then i ask them if a civic type r which is highly modified by a reputable japanese tuning company (spoon) would be rice. they answered "of course it is its a civic"
some people i just like to smash their head in.

ahh enough shit talk about commy drivers, don't go down to their level.
for certain, they make more power and have better driveability in general. Japanese cars are 'crap' because they have no low end torque and have the impression that u have to kick the shit out of htem to overtake at the lights. and it's kinda true. You might have a high peak power but if 80% of the rev range is spent at less than 80% of it's max power, what's the use? That's typical of a NA, I4..

No idea where 'VTEC YO' came from but it wasn't F&F no. 1.
As for Honda being associated with 'rice' and the owners being called 'ricers' that just BS. The same way we sometimes give muscle car owners crapola about having small dicks. IMO a real motoring enthusiast will like all cars for what they are.
To me, 'rice' is an overly extravagant style of exterior modification, with huge spoilers, exhaust tips and body kits etc. Then you get the 'Sexpec' and 'JDM' styles - it's up to you what you choose.
And finally I think we're probably known as ricers more than other Jap cars because we're more common? Maybe Hondas are just cheaper, more reliable, better looking or more fun to own? Or maybe they're generally not as fast as the turbo skylines and WRX's etc so they cop more crap?
As for VTEC I don't think we believe it's the fastest thing ever. However it was a sensational piece of engineering and the first of many variations (VVTi, Mivec etc have all mostly copied VTEC).
It allows the engine to run in a smooth, reliable and fuel efficient manner and when VTEC engages the engine can utilise a lumpy camshaft profile, producing more power, which would otherwise cause a 'lopey' idle and be less economical on fuel if it were the standard camshaft profile.
Plus it sounds sick.

A good friend of mine just bought an R33 GTST (the 2.5L turbo no the RB26 though) for $9,200. Sweet car, hate to say it lol. Pearl white, body kit, 116k KMs, and it goes pretty damned hard from 3k RPM upwards. Very comfortable and easy to drive also...

There a few meanings on urban dictionary: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Rice&defid=1513712
Here is one that caught my eye:
Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements. (R.I.C.E.)Parts put on cars to make them look fast, when they have no internal tuning, and are actually slow as hell. Parts usually consist of excessivley angular bodykits, large rear spoilers, neon, sponsor stickers, chrome rims, fake "coffee can" exhaust tips, and loud, annoying paint jobs and/or vynils. Sometimes parts are do-it-yourself installed and are basically duct taped to the car. Most commonly known for being done to Honda Civics, but can also be done to slow domestic vehicles, such as a Chevy Cavalier, etc.
"Yo dog, did you see the Civic that guy was rollin' in? it was so rice."
"This guy's got nothin' under the hood, it's just rice. Smoke him."
"What a riceboy, I bet he thinks his neon adds 50 bhp!"

Common or not, I just think it's nice to pull up next to somebody who actually understands what your car means to you and you're going through with your build project.
And IMHO EP3/EM1/S2000 are only 'relatively' rare.
Considerably rare = NSX, Honda City Turbo II (Mugen's 'Bulldog'), the Gen1 Prelude, or the old Civic S-series etc :)
But whatever floats your boat. I like seeing passionate enthusiasts, whether it's another EG or something else...

I might sound bias but I honestly never see EM1s unless I go to a Honda meet where there might be 1 or 2 if your lucky. I'm going to have to agree with Josh here, EM1's are a rare breed, certainly around our area. I've seen 2, yours and a black one that I've seen rolling around work.
I guess it varies big time betweens states, the amount of P-plated S2k's I've seen on this board that belong to guys in Vic and NSW massive compared to what I've seen up here. Not to mention EP3R's.
I see ALOT of Accords, including Euros around my area.

I actually hardly ever see EM1's.. just EJ8 wannabe's lol
See alot more S2k's than I do EM1's, and ALOT more ek's than I see EG's
I don't see non sexspec delsols very often either or gen2 crxes
but ek's, accords/euros are like the most common thing I see on a daily basis lol

I got raced by a honda civic last night an 07 model with the plates in pink called JOK123 or something like that, what an idiot trying to impress his little cute gf, so i zoomed past him and changed to his lane and mind my own business....then he comes racng past like as if i cant just push it down and overtake him easily with the euro.
I always had a mutual like with other honda drivers i always let them into my lane first hahahah a sought of club or something, but after that idiot last night who thinks his vti civic is quick than an euro...that's disrespect and i now know where the VTEC YO attitude comes from. If it shts me think about skyline or bmw owners how much it'd sht them.
By the way anyone have a short explanation of VTEC vs i-VTEC?

i vtec is the same thing, just that the ECU has better control over what happens, and under what conditions the vtec cames activate etc.
just drive past and hold up your little pinky, no need to act like a 17 year old.

In Canberra dc2r's are heaps rare. Seriously, this year I've probably seen 2 (not including a white one thats often parked at uni) which is far less than the amount of Ferrari's I have seen. S2k's are pretty common, so are dc5r's and gen 4 and 5 Preludes.
Got totally dissed by a dude in a WRX today lol, was running massively late for work so I was driving pretty fast and each time I'd get in front of the WRX he'd just put his foot down and rape me, not that I was racing. Was funny, sounded awesome.

Personally I enjoy seeing other Honda enthusiasts on the road, especially when it's a Gen2 CRX. I often cruise with them when we're going the same way - it's a neutral understanding and appreciation of one another. Good opportunity to pull alongside and exchange an 'upside down nod' if you know what I mean :D
when i do this to other nicely done / clean ek's .. they seem to think i want to race them .. =O
