View Full Version : How much did you pay for you Accord Euro (Driveaway)?
Just bought a demo euro sport auto with 2300km on the clock for $35500, with met paint, tint, mat and a couple of minor extras and 5 year warranty. Think it's a reasonable deal. Fro a brand new one i think 38k is about the right money.

Just to prove it pays to know what you should pay:
Euro Sport - taken straight from www.honda.com.au
Price
6-speed manual $35,990*
5-speed automatic $37,990*
*not including dealer delivery/stat charges*
Burswood Honda PriceList as at 31st May 2006.
Sport 6 speed manual 37780
Sport 5 speed seq'l auto 39780.
ORC is $2391 stamp duty + 490 rego + 300 metallic paint for the auto which brings it up to $43000 drive-away.
How many people on ozhonda have gotton the luxury automatic model for less than that drive-away? :P
Nice to know at least one dealer is misquoting a more expensive RRP than it ought to be.

Looks like Burswood Honda has set themselves up with a nice $2,000.00 profit / margin to begin with even before bargaining to make unassuming ppl feel better when they do so!!

I got fully plugged by my dealer because I wanted it sooo badly. The lux euro is great value, 10-15 grand cheaper than a holden calais. Check the specs on the VZ MY06 calais at http://www.redbookasiapacific.com/au/vehicle/specs.php?key=HOLD06DH&new=1 and tell me what's difference in features?? have a look at the crappy el-cheapo looking calais interior pics.

My friend paid $45500, Same as yours but less metallic paint, MP3, Luggage tray, Organiser box, and sport pedal. so I think your offer is a great offer.
If you can shave that $314 off, that will even be better.
BTW. How much is the sport pedal? are they metal one with rubber studs?

I dont know really know how much is the sports pedal, I just asked all of them in one bundle. My friend said that the sports pedal should be around $100 and yes I think its the metal one with rubber studs, I havent seen the real one, I just looked from the brochure. I know the full body kit is around $3500, the MP3 player is around $1000, and the I have been told that all the options cost $6k+. Next thing I want to do is to change the rims to 18' and get it lowered.

Hi Guys,
Long time reader, first time poster..
After a long few months of deciding what car I wanted I decided to go for the Euro Sports. Today I went to my local Honda Dealer to test drive the Euro Sports... V.Nice to say the least! Anyways I put in an offer of $37K to the sales guy (No Accessories, not even mats!) and they said they couldn't do it for that price :(... Though they wouldn't give me a minimum price other than the RRP of around $40500 Drive Away, which is rediculous.
I'm thinking of going through a broker now, any experience with pricing in Perth for a Manual Euro Sports Driveaway?
Thanks Y'all :)

I'm in Perth. I went to Honda North.. Sales man reckons "Limited Edition, No Discounts... Blah Blah". I reckon it's BS but still, they wouldn't sell to me for $37k ,with no options, might I add! I dont really have the time to visit dealers etc, as Saturdays are really my only day off.. and today I only had the time visit 1 dealer. Anyone have any experience with Burswoord / Presitge Honda Dealers? Is $37K a fair realistic price?
Thanks again!

Absolute BS. The RRP for the Euro Sport has recently been slashed and comes with the 5 year warranty.

6-speed manual $35,990*
5-speed automatic $37,990*
Print it off (along with the special offer page)
I got my car from Burswood Honda. However, from experience - and from friend recommendations Prestige is just as good. I now service at Prestige. Depends which one is closer to your locality and if you intend to service there. For 40.5k - you may as well get the luxury, paying the extra 2k unless you want the body kit.
41k including metallic paint, tinting, rear parking sensors and mats ON ROAD. $300 extra for exterior Ming glaze + environshield. Automatic. Delivered in 6 days. Perth. Without a broker. And I already consider that I could have gotton at least 1-1.5k better than that except I couldn't really be stuffed. The manager didn't even renegotiate on my deal. He just accepted it first-go, which is definitely a sign of you paying that little bit too much.
The sports is better value than the standard at RRP. But there is no way you should pay full-price for it seeing how willing they are to discount the other cars. There are two other Perth dealers. And they are all open till late Wednesday evening. 37k for the automatic ORC is pushing it ... but let them know you're serious and will put down a deposit if they come up with a good deal (but don't sign anything unless that's the final price you wanna pay ... once the deal is accepted it's a bit late) and they will be more open to negotiation. Or go with a friend who knows their stuff.

Hi Tanalasta, Thanks for the info! I really do appreciate it.
I was actually after the Sports Manual. But yeah, I believe the Salemen's train of thought for calculating the RRP Driveaway was.. Car (35990) + Delivery (1790) + Rego (478) + Stamp Duty (Appx. $2400) which comes to around $40700. My mate even purchased a Stand Euro from the same dealer not too long ago and got it for around $35K (near RRP of car only), with towbar + weather shields + tint + mats, his reply to this was... "Euro Sports are a Limited Edition, so we can't do that.." I felt like saying, "if it's so special why are you advertising a $1500 discount + 5 Year Warranty to move them?" =( ..
On a different note, I spent some time looking through this thread this morning and looks like a few people have had a bit of luck at the $38000 price point. I would be willing to pay a little more if they gave me some extras, but the Salesmen was pretty adament if I was asking for a price < $39K I would get no extras!
Just a few other questions, I noticed a few people mentioned they sent faxes to dealers with offer's to purchase a car? How does this work and what would I have to put in the fax?
Thanks again, for your help :)
Stamp Duty (Appx. $2400)
Is that the stamp duty in WA? Qld has a tranfer fee of 2% of the purchase price, and I think I cold have bought an auto with met paint and mat for 38k so manual should be about 2k less, in Brisbane anyway. Perth migt be different
clowdz
25-06-2006, 05:05 PM
In WA it's a sliding scale: The more expensive the car, the higher % you pay for Stamp Duty.
I believe for a $36K car its around 5%.

Dealers are good at coming up with BS replies :P Always worth it for that gullible person who they can make a profit out of. Correct me if the salesperson doesn't get a bonus depending on how much profit he makes out of the deal :P
You should have said exactly what you just said. To be fair, the old Euro Manual Sport price was 37780 RRP without the 5 year warranty. I'd aim for RRP +/- 1k but including the same in accessories. Tinting/mats etc... Remember if you will always pay less for non-genuine Honda accessories which are just as good (e.g. tint / parking sensors) aftermarket. So if you can't get them, don't.
Other things to bargain for - free servicing, paint protection *MEH*, full tank of fuel, better discounts on a trade in, other accessories (e.g. body kits/boot protector/sports pedal etc... mats are a must though).
And make sure the dealer doesn't forget the 5 year warranty. Mine needed some *ahem* prompting to remember to write it in my contract. I should add the 41.5k on road for my vehicle was way more than I should have paid.

Manual or automatic?
And if you're a bit of a mechanically minded person, make sure you check what you can before you drive the vehicle home. Yes, they do a PDS (pre-delivery service). But mine was done 3 months before delivery of my car. Tyre pressures were 24PSI cold!!! Oil and other fluids were okay though. Take your time test-driving it and trying things out even though you may just want to take it home ASAP. It's a lot more difficult having one-on-one dealer time once you've taken the delivery home.

Manual :)
From the sounds of it the car is being stored in their yard at the moment so i assume they will be doing the check this week. In saying that i will still be checking everything before i drive out.
Have been reading up on breaking in the motor, with the current car i took it easy as the manual states (under some rpm, can't remember exactly), but other sources have said i should go over this so the pistons rings will seal properly, guess i'll keep reading :)

Not too bad at all ... which dealer did you end up going to out of curiosity? You made sure you got the complimentary 5 year warranty + roadside assitance as well I hope? It 'is' part of the end-of-financial year sale. Now is where you go accessory shopping. Beware the aftersales lady who lies just as much as the dealer can. But streetlegal tinting can be had for $300 (not the $600 RRP they quote). Burswood use Tint-a-Car Osborne Park ... or so the stamp on my tinting brochure says! which is what you'd expect to pay anyhow. With the black window triming, tinting definitely makes your car look meaner.
Yet another graphite sports on the road *wah* - congrats on your purchase though! And that when the car is spanking new is the best time to wax it.

I went with Burswood Honda in the end. Got the price over the phone.. I dealt with a top salesman (Steve). Yeah I got the Warranty / Road Side, even though I'd rather sports pedals or something else instead of the road side as I already get it with RAC. As for tint, I wasn't about to get shaked with their markup, same goes for their Paint Protection rubbish. As for colour.. it was Graphite or Red (1 Graphite, 2 Reds Left in WA I believe), and I'm really not a Red Person.
Thanks for all the help mate, hope to contribute and help other members in the coming future as so many of you have done for me so far. :D
tanalasta
27-06-2006, 12:06 AM
Ahh ... they still have the red do they? *lol* - Red's the only colour where you don't have to pay for the metallic paint. Though it's routine to ask for the $300 metallic paint to be thrown in.
Over the phone's not bad. The Sport's pedal is well under $200 so not too hard to save up for. But I'm with the RAC too (cost $800 or so to insure my car for 41k). I'll probably cancel my roadside assitance with the RAC next year. You can also pay $20 a year to be a ' RACmember' and rack up the membership years you need to progress to bronze/silver/gold membership rather than the $69 for the roadside assitance.
Actually the 5 year warranty / roadside assistance is quite a good deal but I'll probablys till call the RAC before I call Honda. I've been with the RAC for years.
I got my street-legal tinting thrown in but I paid more than you did for the automatic Euro :P On the Civic purchase I'd cancelled I haggled the tinting down to $300 without too much trouble. I take very good care of my paintwork (the Honda servicing department scratched my car more washing it than I have done in a month) so thought $300 for the paint-glazing was worth it, especially as my car is parked outside a lot. Even my partner thinks my paintwork still gleams :)
Enjoy the delivery drive in 2 weeks! If they already have it in their 'yard' at the back, ask to have a look. The only reason it takes so long is because their pre-delivery detail department is probably booked out. It doesn't take long at all to ready the car and 5 minutes to install the mats!
I like how Burswood put the plastic licence plate covers over the plate too. It's a $20 option elsewhere. And if you remember to ask, you can often have first choice of about 4-5 different number plates at the end of the week. Or it's just under $200 for the 'AAnnWA' customized option.
*edit*
I detailed the interior of my car with Wolfgang's rubber/vinyl protector yesterday from www.waxit.com.au - I love the stuff. Applied easily with a foam applicator (just a $1 Meguair's pad) smoothly and evenly. Nice satin, non-shine sheen. Yet to apply Zaino's leather in a bottle onto my vinyl/leather seats.
And that newspaper trick to clean glass windows works!

why? the grey graphite merges with the grey roads.. and it is pretty hard for me to know where the bonnet it, when driving.

The dealer filled out the extended warrenty thing with me when i picked up the car, they may send something out afterwards (only picked up the car on thursday so i haven't received anything as yet obviously) but you should be filling out the application/registration when you pick up the car.
ps. absolutely love the car, went for a long country drive on saturday and put it through it's paces, beautiful machine :D

Yes, the dealer should get you to fill out an 'application for extended warranty/roadside assitance' when you pick up your car. Or at the time of finalising settlement/contract.
The rest (e.g. confirmation of acceptance, letter and Honda Assistance card) is posted out to you. My dealer simply posted me the application booklet with a self-addressed envelope so yes, there isn't much wrong with that.
However, make sure you have the 5 year warranty put down on your contract paperwork 'just in case'. My dealer needed a gentle reminder and it takes 2 seconds for him to write it on the form.

Anyway, am considering trading my subie in for a euro sports, can anyone recommend any good honda dealers in melbourne? Sometimes better deals can be done with subaru regional (country) dealers, has anyone had the same experience buying their honda?
Appreciate any advice, especially concerning availability, good deals, etc. thanks!

hey, akh10! I'm pretty new here too. I found this site after I made a purchase, can't say I was happy with how everything went other than Price.
However, member ' UNLS1' aka James who works at Courtney Patterson Honda in Heidleberg should be able to hook you up nicely.
Wish I bought off of him.

So you are giving someone a plug but you didn't actually buy the car from them? I hope people take these sorts of recommendations with a grain of salt.
Akh10 - there are no real short cuts to getting the best price on a car. You need to shop around for yourself as prices change, margins and stock change, etc. Definately don't believe everything you read on the internet, including ozhonda. The seeds of greed and self interest are everywhere. Any car sales person posting in this thread is only touting for commission and you would be well advised to steer clear.
ps - if anyone gets an unsolicited PM from a car dealer offering to get them a better price on a new Honda please let me know.

And don't forget to take advantage of fleet (e.g. autofleet.com.au) or other brokers if you can. Some professional affiliates and unions have an arrangement where you don't have to pay a fee to use them.

My experience with purchasing a EuroSport via a carbroker (betterdeal.com.au) was crap to say the least, I got 1 freaking bid and it cost me $150! I think it came down to the fact that there is next to no stock of these cars left in Australia (I was told there was 4 left in W.A. when I purchased mine 2.5 weeks ago) and Honda trying to sell these last few units at the highest price possible. Having said that, I hope you find the car your after and make sure you don't act like you want the car desperately or they will Jack You!!
Good Luck

I had many issues with the purchase of my car over the past 2 months, after the deal was done. I needed the help of somenone in the business, and UNSL1 gave me very clear and fair opinions of what a consumer can expect from a dealer. Because UNSL1 showed honesty that was lacking from the dealer that I purchased my car from.
I have recommended him to the posters on the basis that I believe that if I had dealed with his dealership, my purchasing experience would definitely have been better than what I have experienced. Customer service as the basis for the recommendation.
Does this mean a better price because we read the same boards, who knows?

I am not sure that Honda would be able to sell the last remaining Euro sport at a premium. It should be the other way round, that is they would want to clear them, and that's why the RRP had dropped by $1500 and the Euro sport is the only model in the Euro range that has a 5 years warranty and road side assiatance. That tells me that they r keen to move them. Also are all euro sport built in 02/06? If they r, then they would had been sitting in the yard for months, so why would you want to buy them without a significant discount? Use that point to bargain and listen to the dealer's bullsh#t about it being a limited edition.

I some what agree with you, I believe the were selling real slow when it first came out at the price of $37490, otherwise they wouldn't have reduced the price by $1500 + Free 5 Year Warranty. But since the price drop they had been selling much better. Also, in reference to selling them at a premium, I was referring to the lack of bids I received for my Particular Auction on Better Deal, I received one bid for the car I wanted and the final price being $39419 (Graphite, Manual Driveaway). This leads me to believe the dealers had no reason to bid on the car as they must've thought they could have easily sold it at that price or close to it. Having said that, I still paid much lower than the final bid price. However, this was just my experience with a car broker and it wasn't great to say the least, but yeah moral of the story is, a car broker's price isn't always the best :)

when there were not many 30th anniv accord Vti's left in the country last year and we only had like 4 left it was full price if you wanted one or we wouldnt sell it...
But the euro sport is different, honda made them to expensive at the start, we knew it, most customers knew it....we only have like 3 left now and we will give a discount on them..

I got my silver Euro Std Auto with free tints and mats and full tank petrol for $34,750. Just wondering if it's a good deal or just normal.
Thanks.
Would have to agree with the comments on car brokers. Tried one and their price was more than the first offer I had when I walked into a dealer. The guy I dealt with was p*ssed of when I told them that their "special price" was quite a bit more than my existing offer. It was OK in that they didn't charge me for it (they had a money back guarantee but didn't have to chase them to get a refund). I would think they can get good prices for "mainstream" cars such as Toyota's and Holden’s as they can group them together and ask for a bid on 20, 30 or more so the dealers go into a bidding frenzy. Hondas are too much of a "specialist" item.
The company I used to finance the deal (salary sacrifice type of thing) also couldn't do any better either.
In the end I paid $34,500 drive away for a standard manual with mud flaps, tow bar (genuine Honda), mats, 12 months rego, full tank etc. I know you eastern state guys can do better but this is in sleepy old Adelaide.

Since today is their sale day i got 5 Years warranty &road side assisstance plus:
Tinting, Paint Protection, Mats, Full tank Petrol, metalic paint, 12 month rego.
Not sure if it's a good price.. but i have paid for it ....
I got it from Burswood Honda in Perth
Well i also took the sale offer for the accessories such as Leather protection for $220 and $540 for remote sensor

$41,500 drive-away (so without the sunroof that's $39,500 drive-away). Included 2 year extended warranty (total 5 yrs), and the usual full tank of petrol and free loan car with every service. Personally I was very happy with that deal, especially since it included 2 bottles of wine!

No idea which is the best, but I can quote my experience with Rick Damelien. After the test drive and deciding what colour I wanted, the salesperson sat down with me at his computer, pulling up the list of cars that Honda Australia had in the holding yard and also those coming in within a few months. So he filtered out the colour I wanted, base model and manual transmission and told me that I could get my car within 2 weeks. Of course, I had some other commitments then, so I told him that I wanted delivery in 1.5 months. No problem he said and I got my car and all that on time, detailed (no swirls) all ready to go. He sat with me and showed me every user feature in the car, including the little stuff and advice on it (such as the rear boot release switch) and rear seat release straps. He basically explained everything in the cabin, doors, alarm, power window features, and in the engine bay, where to fill water and how to check the engine oil level. So he gave me a full overview of the car so I didn't have to RTFM just to use it!
The price back in August 2004 was $34000 on the road with mats, mudflaps and petrol (95 oct).

The guy whom I bought from was Greg Fawcett. A nice guy and he was not condescending at all eventhough I looked young and wore just a T-shirt and pants to the dealer. Told him what I was looking for and that if the price was good, I would sign on the day. Once they know you are serious, they will be more willing to negotiate. I remember I saw a demo model Euro on the floor selling for $34500 (in otherwords, $2000 off the OTR price that was displayed on new models). I asked him what good deals there were, and he pointed out that car. I told him, I want a new car (LOL) and he said that yes, the new car experience is very nice. Start low and then they will feel like they have gained some ground on you after you go 1k above your starting price (I offered $33000 at first). In the end I got it for $34000 with the above accessories. I recommend you get the boot tray thrown in. I wanted to buy it after a year and found out that it costs $170!
Be only interested in the final price you pay. They will add up all the RRP of the accessories and on-road costs to show you how much they are losing. But don't worry about that. You are there for your price, not theirs.
Above all, if you are not able to get the price you want, always be prepared to walk away. My price limit that I set was $34500 OTR.

well for one, I didn't have a good experience with one particular salesperson at Rockdale Collins, quoted a ridiculous price for a Accord VTi, ended up doing a deal over the phone at Larke Hoskins Homebush (was only the 2nd dealer I went to), got there 60 mins after my phone call and signed everything in 10 mins. Ask for Mitchell, no bs guy, just say you want to buy today and be reasonable. Mats and tints are almost always std I'd say but confirm first.

sorry my intention was that when you deal with this particular salesman, say that you want mats and tint as part of the deal upfront.
It wasn't my intention to say that it was normal practice with dealers all over Australia that tints and mats were always included. I'm sorry for the confusion.

- Nighthawk black and black leather
- Full body-kit with rear spoiler
- Metallic under-panel interior trim

Drive away $50500.
I haven't arranged any window tinting but I think I will next week. I understand that $300 is the approximate price. I was tempted to get the rear parking sensors as well (extra $400) but resisted.
Delivery not until March, but there was no way I was going to compromise on colours or features just to get it sooner.

Just ordered mine last week for just under $43K drive away for a brand new Manual Euro Luxury with Sat Nav, Mats, Tint, Full Tank, and the current special offer - Free Rego, CTP, Stamp Duty, 5 Years Warranty & Roadside Assist etc. Unfortunately, it's still approx $1K above my original budget, but didn't really have too much time to haggle any further and the car needs to be registered soon, as the special offer ends at the end of the month.
I wouldn't say it's the best deal, but it's not bad either

The Euro is four years old and is beginning its runout mode. Many dealers are throwing in free stamp duty, dealer delivery, rego, etc. Heard that the new model will be released in 4th qtr '07 or early '08. There's also competition with the upcoming new Mazda 6 and the 3.5L V6 Aurion.

In that case, I think in equivalent retail terms... it's 37k + 10% = 40.7k

Thanks for the quick reply and welcoming. Yeah i did check the posts, i think i got through about half of them before i posted. Just thought i'd wave a flag to see some thoughts people have about more recent purchases and people who went for the satnav. From what i can see the prices vary greatly all over the place but it seems to be more or less related to when the car was purchased, and the optional accesories people are getting vary so much that its hard to compare some of the deals at times.
^^yep you always need to shop around at the time of intended purchase and as you probably have gathered there are differences in stamp duty state to state so that can impact "on the road" prices.

me n the missus just upgraded our 01 camry to a late 05 euro..
45000k
white
auto..
car yard wanted 22500 but ended up paying just under 20 driveaway :)
30000 on the clock for a 1 year old car is ALOT.
33,000 klm's is a about average person drives in one year..........Hence the 3 year/100,000 klm warranty majority of car companies offer.

Hi guys
I was interested in the accord euro (standard) auto and i went around dealerships for quotes.
For the moment, i'm not very sure what is a decent price but most the quotes i got from honda were around $39k driveaway which is beyond what i can actually afford.
Hi Poeter,
I just brought an accord euro tourer a week ago I paid under $36k including Matts, Tint and Spoiler.
On top of that Honda is offering free on roads and 5 year warranty at the moment, so now is good time to get deal.
Hope this helps. :)

Hi y'all, first post on here,
Just settled on a new Euro Tourer (2007) in Automatic (Mocha Pearl).
(Tourer comes with Euro SatNav, Parking Sensors and Front Foglights),
Got it optioned with a Parrot Bluetooth Kit, +2Years Extended Honda Factory Warranty, Headlight Protectors, Corner Bumper Protectors, tailored floor mats, foglight protectors),
all fitted and delivered for $38k on the road. It was the last Mocha Pearl Tourer available in Australia (according to the dealer).
Service was very good (has been so far anyway), at Prestige Honda Melville (WA), spoke to a David Shomali. He gave us a Euro Luxury for a test drive for a couple of hours too, which was good.
The new one will be delivered next Friday (18th), cannot wait :P
