On Sunday my DC5R got hydraulic lock and now the engine is stuffed. I called a mate whos a mechanic to come over and have a look at it and he confirmed the worst. Something internal is bent. All thanks to my Injen Cold Air Intake. Anyways im not going to bother with rebuilding or buying a new k20a. So im going the K24a3 route. I'd like to hear peoples opinion and any problems ill encounter. Will it straight fit without any additional stuff or an ecu tune? Also keen on anyone with a low kms k24a3.

I believe the gearbox will fit the k24a3. you will probably need the k24 ecu. Also do u drive a 350z?

oh man, from all these horror stories that ive read on the net, it really puts me off from getting an injen now... staying back on stock

Anyways another option instead of going for the k24a3 route, the k20/k24 is also viable but costly but very very good build since you already have k20 head and gearbox etc.. from what ive seen and heard.

Im from Sydney DC2 PWR. Yea last Sunday in Syd south west there was heavy/crazy/wtf/torrential rain. I couldnt help driving over puddles on the shitty/dodgy highway a.k.a Cumberland Hwy and the CAI sucked up heap of water. Its an INJEN btw. Anyone with a CAI I implore you to ditch it, or you'll end up like me. In bed, curled up in the fetal position, hating life. lol =[

You can run k24a3 motor with your dc5r gearbox , you can also run your engine loom from dc5r.
Get hondata kpro ecu for it as k24a3 ecu wont work on your car.

On a heavy rain day , avoid doin full throttle . My intake set up are exposed direct to the front bar, water gets in so easy into the air filter. I drove it from Wakefield to Sydney on a heavy rain day with so much puddles on the motorway without any problems to the motor even when the air filter was soaking wet.
I only hit 1/4 throttle most of the time.

Agreed, doesnt matter how wet it gets, the more u push the more likely the engine is gonna suck in water

Tanity+DC5.Raven ty for contributing to the thread. But I've ruled out a k20/24. The K20a I have is stuffed. So i wont be able to use the head. Thanks anyway. Keep the posts coming in people i wanna hear what you got to say.

Well said Yonas, this is correct.
Had my own near miss with my INJEN but i now avoid full throttle as my pod is exposed under the front bar lol..

Rebuild the head and make a k20/k24...
Would be worth it IMO

hey mate, instead of getting a k24a3 you can probably get a used jdm k20a. which would be much faster than a k24.

Heres a link to a jdm k20a for ya. for 6.5k, im not sure what it comes with though, but seeing as that your gearbox is still fine makes this a very feasible option.

That is heaps unfortunate mate. Get in touch with Sydney Auto Dismantler. They may have JDM K20 motors coming in.

6.5 isn't too bad I've seen these sell for around 7-9k just for the engine!

How much do you reckon I can get for a AUDM k20a requiring a rebuild? Not much i assume lol

Can u reco a hydro locked engine?

V8KLLR
04-11-2010, 08:32 PM
it requires a rebuild. so unless wants to build a k20a with new pistons cams etc its pretty much useless.

double check, usually when hydrolocked it is just bent rods meaning bottom end is gone, so K20-24 would be good to go.
also other people when driving in heavy rain dont go full throttle ever !, drive really slow otherwise you will suck water
ive had some close calls when i didnt have my tyre splash guards but ever since then ive had no problems.
