Im just seeing what peoples thoughts are on this b20 build
i have no intentions of doing so atm
so dont get to worries
this is budget, ghetto ass whatever you want call it
b20 prelude with crv b20 motor
b16 a head fitted using arp head studs and golden eagle vtec kit
and run it of b16a ecu (from what ive read use the b16a loom and it needs two things to be wired)
dont know what else im missing in getting the car running
if all good above then this is what i know of the problems are
b20 gearbox ratio
and bottom end not built for revving
if there the only probs would getting one of those vtec controllers and setting it
so vtec starts around 3000 rpm help this
knowing that this engine wouldnt get revved over 6-7000 rpm
i know theres many mistakes and stupid ideas ive come up with (hopefully not)
but thats the main reason i posted
also for reference could you please compare it with a b16a conversion (motor and gbox)

i wouldnt run a b16a ecu on a b20, too dangerous, get a proper tuneable ecu
you cant use a b20 crv gearbox you will need any b series gearbox B16A-2, B18B-C,2,7

it wouldnt be a crv box
a standard prelude b20 box

You've actually got some significant problems to overcome before you worry about the engine itself.
1) The B20A gearbox will not fit up to any other B-series engine. You will need one of the boxes mentioned by GSi_PSi, yours won't work.
2) There is no loom B16 that is a straight swap into a B20 Prelude for the conversion you're talking about, but it can be done.
3) The engine mounting for the B16, B18, B20B is different to the B20A (B20A is a slant motor, all other B-series are upright) But it can be done...
5) You'll have some hood clearence issues & drive shaft issues that can be solved.
Have you considered just getting rid of the awful old Prelude & just saving up for a better & faster car?

6) Just give it to you, because you're both NSW?

Haha, must be a headache.
Interesting thread though, because I had wondered for a while if you could use the old Prelude as a base for a B20VTEC. Pity it wouldn't work out easily, I reckon it'd be kinda cool :)

The first b20vtec was from a B20A some racing team in Japan did it in early 1990's when i was born lol

Actually the only part from a B20A that is interchangable with the rest of the B-series engine family is the crank.
This also means that a B-seires vtec head swap onto a B20A bottom insn't a viable option as it basiclly can't actually be done.
So, make no mistake the B20A from the old dunger prelude is a complete & utter pile of crap that belongs in the bin.
Brings back memories of rediculous 4WS TV advert with the Cheatah LOL... Wayne Gardner was in the CRX add around the same time.

It can be done but its not worth the trouble and headache , when the B20B came out and people started making vtec conversion kits became simple stuff

H22 conversion kits are available for the Gen3 Preludes...
or you could boost the b20a... they love boost... i've seen pretty big numbers from 10psi into stock blocks...
there are heaps of websites devoted to them...
