Done a DIY using a 1.5v battery but can you tell the polarity by just looking at the terminal?

The two speaker terminals are not identical, and there is no marks of + or -

thanks

A Good way is to get a 9v battery and touch it on the terminal if the speaker moves outward like normal its whatever terminal on the battery that you touched, if it appears to move inwards its the wrong polarity and you need to reverse it. :)

^ nah. 1.5v plenty. try not to do on tweeters cause their VC's are much thinner.

just found out using a 1.5v that the fat terminal is + and the thinner ones is negative...is it standard on most speakers??

I wouldn't do it on a tweeter at all tbh, sorry i work in the pro audio business and generally we use 9v batts because 8ohm 15" speakers dont respond to 1.5v.

yes they do, want me to prove it on a sub that handles 2.5k? lol

you can do it to tweeters but at a really low voltage and a quick burst while looking at the tweeter with a magnifying glass :)

im testing a 6.5 coax...so 1.5v is enough

even looking at the + or - , the polarity can be wrong due to mixup at the factory...

there are phase test kits/device in the market as well.

The best way to test is by ear. Hook up the speakers using the same sized terminals for positive and the same size for negative, listen, then swap and listen again. if you can hear a differnece, then use what works best for you. Speakers don't get hurt from reversing the polarity, but sound quality can if you mix and match.

That's correct.

I was going to say that if you have the usual set up - one "wide" terminal and one "narrow" terminal, the wider terminal is Positive (+ve)
