2007 Civic Sport Engine noise??????

Hi all


i have just purchased my 2007 civic sport it has 80,000 on the clock and drives very nice.

I jusst noticed the other day after driving it for nearly a week a tapping noise coming from the engine. On top of this i get a very loud whinning noice

Its a very weird noise. It almost soudn electronic in nature. like if you conect your power cables and RCA on the same side of the car when connecting a amp. You would sometimes get this whine in the head unit. But it is not coming from the stereo. sorry it sounds weird but that is the best way i can explain the noise.

Just spent two days reading through the faults section and couldnt find the answer.


Any ideas would be apreciated

i think i kinda get that sound too, but i just assumed it was because of my air intake lol, my car is only 22000 on the clock so yeh if its an engine problem im screwed =.=...

and also, it only happens when you idle, when u start moving and the revs pick up the sound disappears right?

nope its there all the time i have to turn the radio up to drown the sound out.

Not sure if the sound is normal or not. My wife even said it doesnt sound normal. Not that she is a mechanic

oh really, so even when u drive it makes it.. what about when u put it into neutral? does the sound disappear?

Nope put it in neutral and rev it still has the sound even with the clutch in as well.

The car is manual

HMM, when my car is in neutral the sound disappears, hmm prob best u take it to honda!

I have an auto Sports.

I spoke to Honda about the noise when I am in D while stopping at the lights. Their said they couldn't find any faults with it

I spoke with Honda this morning they said i need to bring it in. They will test drive it and diagnose.

Car was checked out by Honda yesterday.

i was told the following.

1) Buzzing electronic sort of sound. Is normal for the Honda Sport. So im guessing a few of you that have the sport would notice this noise as well.

2) Tappets where loud. Honda adjusted these for me and the car is sounding alot better. Can not hear the tappets. ticking away.

3) That the engine in these car are very noisy when they run and it is normal.

Hope this might help someone else down the track. My car has 80,000 on the clock. So you should expect this once you hit 80,000

Hi 1stHonda, I have an FD2 as well but i never noticed any electronic buzzing sound, i did notice that the engine was a bit noisy at times though, but that's only if I have the window open, it's generally quiet with windows closed.
Just wondering, did Honda change you anything for that checkup?

No charge i bought the car from them two weeks ago.

Only noticed the noise last week friday. Yeah i notice it with the windows up and down.

I might just take it to my normal mechanic and see what he says

I assume you have some sort of warranty so I would definitely get a second opinion from another independent mechanic. It is a bit of a worry that the honda outlet did not pick up the noisy tappetts before they sold you the car. It casts some doubt over the quality of the predelivery service they did on the car.

Yeah i have the normal 30 day warranty and also an extended 3 year warranty.

I wasnt to happy about the pre delivery. Was given my matt and told here you go you can put these in at home. And the car still had the white polish marks still on it. I wasnt fussed cause it rained all day any way when i picked it up.

My Mechanic is heading away soon so ill have to try get it to him in the next few days.

Does anyone else have a Honda Civic Sport that live around the Chaddy area in Melb. Just so i could maybe compare to see if you are also getting the sound.

I get that electronic buzzing sound when the ignition is on for a few seconds, then it goes away. My N15 SSS did the same. It's the fuel pump priming. When the car runs it's nice and quiet. Maybe your fuel pum pis on the way out.

When the car is running, sit in the back and see if it's louder as the pump is in the fuel tank.

I get a loud ticking noise on idle. Had it since new but doesn't cause any problems.
