sorry for hijacking your thread, how much does 98 usually cost p/ltr? I've been filling voltex premium, but did not state RON95 or 98, at my local caltex station ,low peak perlitre is around 1.26-1.28

Vortex = 95
Vortex 98 (which has '98' in the name) = 98
98 is usually 10c more than 95

Close Roger, but not close enough! 95 octane rated fuel is usually between 10-14c more expensive than 91 octane fuel. 98 octane fuel is usually only about 4c more than 95... At mobil anyway.
I usually get around 550-650 mark, and I drive spirited a lot of the time. :P
Btw, i use mobil 98 or BP ultimate. I always found caltex fuel feels shitty and watered down.

I always use Shell V Power or BP Ultimate (both 98 octane) and get around 500-550km a tank usually.. I've noticed that VPower is 14 cents more than 91 octane, whereas BP Ultimate is around 10 - 12 cents more than the 91 octane available at BP :S

i change between caltex 98 vortex and bp ultimate, depending how i feel =P, dont realli like shell v-power just dont like the feeling =S, but i usually get around 600kms per tank, sometimes with the occasional spirited driving
i find that 98 always cost 14c over the price of 91 no matter where i go

Remember to get regular wheel alignments too! That maximises both fuel efficiency and (lack of) tyre wear.
Just had mine done today, -4.2mm toe....... Settings always seem to be out, so regular alignments is a must.
Never have this problem on my Prado! That thing is SOLID!
I too used to get 550 - 600kms out of a tank on the CL9, but am getting around 750kms with the CU2!!!
Amazes me every time!

HAHAHAHA, i felt so embarassed looking at everyone elses consumption....and then i saw yours and was like...oh wow, someone else has the same poor consumption as me....Woooooo
I just use Mobil 98.....reason....its less than a minute from my house.....Shell, BP and others are 5+ mins......LOL
Yeah, i dont really know why the funk my car is crap. Onli reason i can think of is that every day i drive its during peak hour start/stop traffic but short distances.....surely playing Taylor Swift doesnt effect does it...LOL

Sometimes I wonder if an accord euro suck in more fuel than the new SIDI 3L V6 commodores.
I can get 700km to a tank max which would be 30% highway and the rest city.
Usually I get 550-600.
Lately i've been calculating my last two refuels after a service + dumping some Nulon cleaning agent into the tank (i just felt like it) and ive been getting 13.84L/100km which is shocking.
The best I got was 9.8L/100km, my driving style is usually below 3000RPM (just haha)....prob hit 4500-5000rpm once a week.

arent u meant to use at bare minimum premium unleaded? i always use BP ultimate, and usually get around 650 a tank- between canberra n sydney, and around 550 with lots of spirited driving. I used shell v power and the car ran like ass for the week that it was in the tank, ive found bp to always be good stuff either way :)

I use shell V. I feel Shell V is more lively, I feel mobile 98 and BP to be more smooth, and caltex i feel like maybe my car is a bit sick i dunno why prob all in my head.
Anyway, my calculations are wrong. I got 7.25L/100km today. Weird ai?
(29L*100km)/400km = 7.25L/100km. I was being modest with the 400km figure in memory it was either 424km or 474km which turns out to be 6.84L/100km....this seems too low I wish?????????????????
Ive been dividing the total km's by total Litres refilled. Which is wrong. Which is why i got bad looking figures but still looked ok.
Yet redbook says the euro is 9.2L/100km combined. Why would i get lower, I doubt i drive conservative and im 30% highway and 70% city
Plus everyone should be using the above calculation as saying i ge 400km per tank, well it's not accurate cause people refill at different levels i.e. some wait for the E light to come on or some may drive till nearly empty which is bad for the car......get the amount of Litres you refill and the total km's travelled and use the above. Do this 3 times in a row for a more consistent figure.

For some reason it appears from the figures you guys are posting the CL9 is not as economical as the CU2, or maybe country living has its advantages when it comes to fuel consumption. I have no problems getting 900kms out of a tank each & every time using vortex 95. 1000kms + on a long trip is more than achievable.
I keep a spreadsheet on fuel consumption & as of my last fill I had traveled 32470 kms & used 2301.35 lts. that's the average over the life of the car, not the best / worst recorded figures.

Fuel consumption isn't just about how you drive. It's also about the tyre pressure you have (the lower it is, the more rolling resistance there is which asks the car to expend more fuel to move it), spark plugs (whether or not they need to be replaced), the weight you're carrying, the oil you use in your engine etc.
For the guys who go back and fourth between 95 and 98 fuel, it effects the ECU and how it sets the ignition timing for the combustion. Don't expect to get better economy straight away, the ECU needs to figure out how much it should advance/reduce the timings so keep it at one octane rating for a long period then maybe you might see something. Also, hard braking also causes the power used to drive the car to be converted to kinetic energy so don't do a lot of sudden/hard braking.

thats funny, i have found and a friend recently too with v-power to give extra responsiveness,,,really liked it as i my self have only been a bp user.
bp i think gives quietest/smoothest engine
i think alot to do with the batch of fuel on the day too?

I use 95 octane and mine is auto.
Generally I get 600km of my regular combined cycle driving before the fuel light shows up (mind you, the fuel light shows up well before empty).
On the hwy, I will get 700km+ depending on the average speed.
Basically about 7.5l/100km on hwy
and 9-9.5l/100km on average

BP Ultimate all the way (I used to work for BP and I know how much effort is put in to ensure the quality of this brand).
BP Ultimate is the only 98RON PULP on the Australian market that's refined as a 98RON fuel, as opposed to the other 98RON PULPs that are just 95RON PULPs that are mixed with octane boosters after refining.

Do you think that includes SHELL?

I found that BP was way too inconsistent and generally dearer for me I used it for a month and I would get different mileage out of it. Sometimes up too 50-60 k difference. I always use v-power. Most consistent with best mileage.

I read somewhere that every brand of fuel uses different mixes of detergents and after one begins to build up deposits, a new detergent must be used to clean off the old deposits. Changing fuel brands every tank does not help either because then the detergents appear as an all new blend when the old and new fuel mix. So basically you'd need to be switching between different brands every 10-15k to get the benefit of cleaning agents in these premium fuels and keep your engine in tip-top shape (that and a regular oil change of course :)) as well as get the best economy :)
