Just to let you know the gsi , is known as a DC4.
The DC2 is the vtir ( vtec motor)

As for what to look for - drive it rev it out when it's warm. Then pull over , let the
Motor idle and redline it a couple of times look for blue smoke as you back off etc etc

ahh ok thanks bennjamin, ill see if i can use my charms to persuade the lady owner into revving the heck outta the DC4 =P does the gsi have the non-vtec B18B1?

Blue smoke at high rpm = valve seals worn
Blue smoke at low rpm and start up = piston rings
in most cases these are the causes, and even though it's called "blue smoke" it may be more of a grey colour.

here's a little chart of colours of engine smoke:

Blue = Oil = Worn seals of some type
White = Water (condensation) = Normal on morning start up and sometimes in cold weather, but if there is a lot of it during driving or combined with blue smoke it can be a blown or leaking headgasket.
Black = Fuel = Running rich, too much fuel entering the cylinders, needs tune.

hope this helped :)

Sucks you live in SA. Woulda sold you mine which is a year younger than that one, less km's, better wheels, dark blue, manual, nice mods for a similar price.

That one looks good, but it looks like its been raised.

hmmm that still woulda been a problem, because the car is for my friend and she can only drive auto

by raised did you mean suspension wise?

Its not, but the gap between the wheels and the rest of the car doesn't look very nice IMO. More importantly though, its in awesome condition, the interior looks near mint.

To be honest I think they are asking a bit much for it... I mean you can get a good VTiR for like a grand more. I got my VTiR for $9000 with 128,000kms and a respray. maybe they'll negotiate a price with you?

WOW look at the offset on those wheels! I swear it looks like they are sticking out of the guards!

also that looks like a prelude steering wheel, and I've never seen that silver ring around the gauges before :S

ahh i see... i guess i'll tell her to look around more then, found a '93 integra for $5700 in vic its got less kms too, thanks for all the feedback guys.

if all fails i guess i will have to negotiate, how much do you guys reckon an example like this should be had for?

If I was buying it I'd offer them $6000 max, and only if the engines running really well. lol

Depends if her heart is set on an Integra I guess. As she can only drive auto she has no choice but to get a Gsi. They've still got a great engine.

The door trims are lifting =( and that looks like a non-airbag steering wheel if I'm not mistaken? Strange, because the airbag came standard on all DC2/4's except for the earliest models...
