i would like to know how the honda rev limiter works.

i have noticed that when on the street and my car gets wheelspin, i seem to hit the rev limited, and the shift light only flicks on. shift light set at 7500, rev limit 8600.

when at the drags and traction isnt a problem, i see the shift light glow for a long time before i shift, as i have 1000rpm worth of shift light.

now my question is. if the engine is accelerating really fast(wheel spin) does the rev limited try to cut in earlier to catch the engine by the 8600 rev limit, which would make it seem like my shift light only flicks on for an instant, or sometimes i dont even see it? which in the end makes me bash the limiter to shift, instead of actually seeng my shift light, which is realy annoying as i hate hitting the limiter..

where as at the drags the light starts at 7500 and stays on till 8600, which may be half or a full second.

cheers guys

it works off RPM, when you hit that RPM the ecu cuts out briefly so the revs drop.
On wheel spin you hit the rev limit very fast. It happened to me when i hit a bump and the car jumped up while i was accelerating. not something you want to happen all the time

sif need a shift light to know when you shift.

i get on the limiter in my car in the wet all the time (lol), in the 3 years ive had my car the rev limiter seems to slowly go higher and higher, probably valve bounce eventually haha.
