hey all, took my 91 crx for a drive on the weekend after bout 5 mins the engine light came on and stayed on till i got home.i then switched it off, checked under the hood, found nothing and turned it on again but the light didn't come on.now i'm nervous taking it for a drive.i know it's probably a broad question and i appologise if this has already been discussed, but does anyone know what things trigger the light.a few weeks ago the speedo stopped working and as a result the engine light came on but once i replaced the speedo cable it switched off so thats one obvious reason. can anyone help please?

thanks nickk for the link,i knew it was here somewhere but all my searches came up empty
my computers flashing 17 times but that doesnt seem to match any of the codes
took it for a drive around the block and the check light didnt come on,although i gave the radiator a flush last week and someone said it could be air in the system messing with the sensor
really like to know what the 17 flashes mean

if you think there is air in the cooling system simply crack the bleed nipple and release the air from cooling sysmte

Are you sure your reading the flashes correctly?

STEP 4

Record the fault codes on a piece of paper so you can cross reference the codes. The Codes are flashed out as followed.

Tens are represented by a long flash of the MIL
Units are represented by a short quick flash of the MIL

example, code 43 ( fuel supply system )

long long long long quick quick quick

the ECU will pause for two seconds and repeat the fault code again. read the codes out at least twice to make sure you have the correct code recorded.

it is possible to have multiple codes in the ECU, if you do, you get 1 code then a 2 second wait then the next code.

bellow is an example of code 43 and to the right code 41 and code 1
...............................................
A trap for noobs.

- don’t confuse code 10 for code 1
- don’t confuse code 1 for code 10
- don’t confuse code 2 for code 20
- don’t confuse code 20 for code 22
- don’t confuse code 20 for code 2

looked at that thread and it's 1 long flash followed by 7 short ones but mines 17 short ones, doesnt match but it'd make sence considering i changed the speedo not long ago, anyways just took her for a spin and no engine light, thnks for the links,i think i'l be referring to them again...

code 17 is code 17 either way the ECU spits it out
