Hi i'm quite new at this but keen and willing to learn, now straight to my problem my 95' VTi Accord's air conditioning has gone downhill very quickly in the last few months, i've been procrastinating and left it unattended for some time now.

So i got a friend to look at it cause i don't know too much about airconditioning systems and he told me it looks like i have a blockage somewhere and would prob require a new tx valve and reciver drier.

My question is, is this likely, would it be hard to do, should i get help and is it true if i say the tx valve would be round about $200 or would that be a rip off.

Any help at all would be very very very much appreciated, thx again. :)

might just need to be re-gassed?

unless ur qualified to work with air-cons (need a license sorta thing) dont. Take it to a pro, and just not a friend who knows about them, im talking like an air-con specialist or car dealer where they have the right tools and equipment for the job.

Air-cons are touchy things to be messing around with, and if you dont know what ur doing, chances are ull f*ck it up even more.

how will they know it was u?
probably because u made a hole in the ozone outside your house :D
If u got a guage do a test, can't remember how many psi u need.
If u have no gas inside, you can't hear the a/c turning on and off. Just seems to run constantly like it was never on.

Take it to a specialist, even a dealer sometimes don't know what they are doing. Is usually free to let them have a quick look and around $90 for a professional regas. Regas is not as easy as putting gass in. It also involve putting in PNG oil (special oil use for the compressor) and R134A gas if your car was from the 90's.

Yeah getting a specialist to check it tmrw, so stay tuned and i'll tell you what they say, but my friend is pretty good with these sorta things, but i'd like to be sure....

Tell u tmrw what the problem ends up being or if it just need regasing :)

Had it check out, guy said it needs new tx valve and other *stuff* (sounds like crap) and then quoted me $700 which includes a new regassing...

and seeing that i'm not made of money this isn't really an option at the time for me, does anyone have any advice on how i can save some money to get this done????

thx for any replies.. :)

unless your a workshop, someone will have to dob you in. its STUPID to vent AC gas to the atmosphare, especially R12. dont do it. also there is safty factors to consider. and yes if you dont know anything about refrigirant gasses it can harm you or posibly kill you if handled the wrong way.

I have heard that a/c shouldn't need regassing unless your car's a/c has a leak. It sounds relavent when he says that a cars a/c runs on the same principle as a house a/c. The house A/C doesn't ever need regassing so why should a car a/c need to? Can someone clarify this for me?

My EK4 a/c has stopped cooling the air aswell and I don't know whether it needs to get regassed or whether it needs to get the leak fixed then regassed? Not too sure. My car is still under warranty so when i get it fixed i'll let ya's know.

your home air con has no hoses, all tubes and pipes are welded together. you car however has an engine which moves, so rubber hoses are required to allow for movment. the refrigerant will disepate the rubber over time and leak out. also from valves and connections. rememb er home AC have welded joins, cars have threat type connections with O-rings.

hope that helps.
