if this is a 5th gen prelude..it can cost up to $2500 for a replacement reconditioned gear box..but thats for tiptronic...if yours is a manual it would be around $1000..best to ask the guys on preludeaustralia

My reconditioned 3rd gen manual box cost about $1000 from melbourne. Im guessing for a 5th gen manual it will be a bit more.

when you say it crunches do yo mean that its cruching when changing into higher gears or when shifting down? Becuase with my box, if you attempt to shift down from second to first at any speed above 25km/h it crunches

why the hell do u find the need to downshift from 2nd to 1st anyway ??? and mostly above 25km/hr !!

nopes the shifting is smooth up or down, it only happens when i press the accelerator it makes that soft crunching sound, more like ball bearings loose or something.

Okay well maybe its not 25km/h but basically while the car is moving blip the throttle a lil bit and you wont have a problem.
Most cars synchros are a bit lazy in first.

could be just the clutch bearing has worn out.

You should only be shifting into first when you are stationary (unless you can rev match properly) even then its not good to do it (but it can be done!)

You can hold 2nd gear down till like 5kmh...

Shifting down at that speed usually just rocks the car and makes it feel like the gearbox is gunna rip in half. You doing it for power? Its not hard to rev it and dump the clutch in 2nd...

Bleh.

No this is when im on the streets and i know im going to have to stop and take off again quickly, so i ocassionally put it back to first and blip the throttle. Sometimes it crunches, sometimes it doesn't. I dont need to do it but its kind of a bad habbit that i need to get out of.

As long as you are rolling and not on a steep hill, you can put it into second, right the clutch ever so slightyly without too many revs and get going.

I'd rather do that than force it into 1st.
