Hey everyone

I'm in the process of removing an engine and gearbox from an EG Civic but I'm right up to the last steps of removing the engine mounts and i'm stuck on the rear mount. From the passenger side of the car I can see 2x 19mm bolts attaching the bracket to the engine and another (from memory) 19mm bolt securing bracket to engine mount.

I need some hints or tips to removing them because they're on damn tight and there's barely any room!! Help please

Have you guys done it from under the car, over the top or through the side?

PS my first Honda engine removal :D

From under the car is a pain in the ass because of your exhaust. Just gotta fool around with the right tools from the top. Take the bolt off from the front (of the mount) and try to loosen the rear one just a tiny bit so that you can pivot the engine mount around to get better access. Will take all kinda of stuffing around with different length spanners (ratchet just won't work for the rear I think?). Hope you have ratchet spanners :)

Thanks for that.
Luckily I do have ratchet spanners, but the problem is loosening them first. When you say take the bolt off from the front of the mount, are you referring to the one closest to the engine?

Yes, closest to engine. This is the only way I could get access to the bolt at the rear of the mount on my EF8 (I know it's not an EG but I suppose it's a similar problem?). Even then I still had to get my mechanic to do it, but I managed to loosen the rear one.

You might find that your new engine mount is a revised design and subsequently easier to install :)

Thanks again

but I'm not installing new engine mounts, just removing the engine :)

Got it sorted out. :P

For anyone who gets stuck with this in the future these are the steps I took:

Step 1: From drivers side remove 19mm bolt with socket, extension, ratchet and breaker bar. Do this standing over engine bay.
Step 2: From passenger side standing over engine bay remove 2x 19mm from bracket to engine. Use socket, extension, ratchet and breaker bar to crack it then I used impact gun to loosen from underneath
Step 3: From passenger side again standing over engine bay remove 17mm bolt securing bracket to engine mount (rear closest to firewall). This one is tricky because theres so many brake lines and shit in the way so use your socket and extension then breaker bar to crack it.

By far the worst job! Make sure you have the right tools.
