Hey guys.

I've tried searching, but I've had no luck, so I figured I'd ask you all for some opinions.

I recently purchased the aforementioned '99 GSi, complete with gun-metal grey alloys. Unfortunately, the dickhead who bought them was both a moron and a tightarse, so he's replaced the 14" steelies with, erm the cheapest, dodgiest looking 14" 'alloys' I've ever seen, complete with stickers that spell out, in yellow lettering, 'F-1 Rally Wheels' twice on each wheel. Plus, they have no caps, and look as if they're made of plastic.

Yeah. Thanks mate. I would have preferred the stockies. Or a kick in the nuts.

So, I need some help getting some new wheels. I was looking around at Type R wheels, as I'm sure I'd be able to get a good price on some as someone else is getting rid of them. Budget is, sadly, a concern. Unfortunately, the pre-facelift AUDM ITR wheels, while being 4-stud, are only 15". Ideally, I'd like some 16", or even 17" if they'd look decent. It's only a GSi for the street, so extra weight and slightly worse handling aren't a concern, but looks are. I could have sworn there were some silver 5-spoke Type R rims that had 4 studs, but I can't find them anywhere.

Anyway, I'd really appreciate any opinions or advice! Cheers.

Yeh Type-R wheels won't bolt onto your car unfortunately. Just look around for rims to see what you like? What are you after? Tuner style, chromies, etc.?

4x100? Really? Fark, if that's true, that's pretty annoying.

As far as my budget goes... Hm, really can't say what my budget is. As low as possible to get something okayish.

Style-wise, I'd ideally like something simple, like a 5 spoke design.

Maybe I'll just pick up some SpeedyWheels like I did for my last car? These two are exactly what I'm looking for, so it might be the best option:

A good looking wheel that doesn't break the bank are RS-GT's, I got some for my car and I'm happy with them, especially considering I picked them up half price ($600)

Look around on the internet for good priced wheels that you like, because everything's cheaper on the net haha.

Apec is another brand that makes good looking, inexpensive wheels. :)

Cheers mate. I've seen some Advanti and Konigs that aren't too pricey. Any good?

Wheels are wheels in my opinion, unless your after some lightweight ones. so otherwise if they look good and you're happy with the price then great :)

I think I have the perfect solution to your wheel problem. These are all 4x100..

Maaaaan I am liking the look of those '96 specs. It's a shame the shipping is like $3092488374280340290 lol. :P

Ha, thanks mate. That would be perfect, but $685 plus $375 shipping is what kills it. If I could pick some up from a store for $685, I'd be tempted by some gun-metal '98s, but US$1060 is too steep. Plus, I'd worry about the quality on something like this, personally. Just couldn't shake that knock-off stigma.

If anyone in Melbourne has some fat fives lying around, I'll take them off your hands.

Another problem is tyres, unless you can get a package. Tyres can be fairly pricey if your on a small budget.

Have you tried anywhere on this site? I know that Felix from Race Nation is selling genuine Enkei's and 5zigen wheels pretty cheap, but I think they might only come in 15's if that floats your boat.

Personally what i would do is get 5 lug
Conversion. Yes it may cost a bit to just change thr hub and other related
Parts over. But once it is done, it opens up ur wheel choice selection to pretty nuch any rim with any width/offset available. If i was looking for a car that originally has a 4 lug stud pattrrn and has been converted to 5x114.3 , i would pay the premium price for it. But then again, i have a bit of a wheel addiction.

Heh. I've dropped a mere 6k on a GSi. I don't think I'll be doing anything quite as drastic as that. Cheers though.

Yeah, I'm thinking I'll just grab a basic set of new Speedys. Black 17" will look nice.

17s look best on the GSi.
An option is to look out for the plenty used 4x100s 17inch wheels that are cheap as chips

Cheers mate. Yeah, I figure that not having a sports model gives me a perfect reason to give the 15/16s a miss and go for what looks best, heh.

you would pay $1300 plus fitting for the small benefits that 5 stud provides?

on a totally committed modified car, then ok.

The OP has a street use 99 gSi

Ha, exactly. I won't be changing hubs or rolling my guards. I'll be putting money towards wheels and a respray, and an air intake, but that's about all.

Logical thinking from a GSi driver...

Logical thinking from a GSi driver...Ha, I don't know how to read this. Are you congratulating me for buying a GSi and not trying to pretend it's a Type R? ;)

I'm actually going to forget the respray for now, and just get a couple of scrapes touched up, along with the holes that were left when I removed the spoiler. I might just get the door trims sprayed body colour too, though. That'll be a nice looking car.
