my next car is one of these.but i want bang for buck.obviously evo has more potential being turbocharged but say i/h/e itr vs stock standard evo? or i/h/e evo? i dont want to go crazy with mods, just a few smaller things to get better times on a track.ill most likely keep the standard turbo in the evo if i was to get one.. in a nutshell, what is faster?and in terms of handling, what is better?

If you're going to track one or the other just go the Evo. Better car IMO.

power wise? my friends s2k got smoked by an evo and i always thought the dc2r would give the evo a run for its money.. is that normal?or is my friend a crap driver?lol

I reckon the EVO5 would out do the DC2R in all departments as a track car.....someone will flame me for this but aye.....

Work out a budget and see what you can afford! remember that both cars are at the age where bits will need to be replaced!

JohnO
02-12-2010, 05:35 PM
do you even need to think about the answer? cause all you gotta do is sit in an evo play some music and let the ecu do the rest.

hmm yeahh i though about the cars age,but i will be importing the evo as my mates dad has a dealership.he said he'll help me find a nice clean one and get it inspected by one of his guys down there to make sure its in good nick.. its very rare that ill be able to get a jdm dc2r as theyre not available for personal imports or so ive heard..or they are too much of a hassle. this guy brings down evos all the time and all on about 40-50k on the clock.. so yeah im definately thinking evo atm

cihanvtec
02-12-2010, 05:45 PM
s2k is faster than the dc2r
ye but fast enough to keep up to an evo??

JohnO
02-12-2010, 05:54 PM
with the evos and the age aswell the odo isnt going to be what it says and that goes with all imports. just have to check whether things have been changed like timing belt which should be stock and not changed to atleast 100k km. how much is a evo5? get a tm edition

Nepolian
02-12-2010, 06:00 PM
TM comes in the EVO6 aka 6.5 :)

EVO is a great car man. The stock engines are remarkably boost-resilient and they handle very well. Power at four wheels too, super fun I would think.

Also you can just upgrade the turbo, get an ECU, increase the boost and you'll be making stacks of power.

One day I'm thinking of getting an EVO 1. Old British Top Gear said it was a superior car to the NSX.

JohnO

driven a friends stock evo my god the 24psi of booooost is fun.

The Evo rips DC2R to pieces... the FD2R and NSX could beat it around the track though...

davidvtec
02-12-2010, 08:34 PM
At the end of the day, it all comes down to BUDGET. If you had all the money, the dc2r with money put into it, has got potential to beat the EVO. But i guess you'll have to spend shit loads to put all that power in the front wheels, when you can just put power into all FOUR wheels. At the end of the day, its the budget. They both have potential to beat each other if money is not the problem. IMO the EVO, looks great too

on a straight line. I bet my mates evo 6.

His car is stock.

My car had a fujita cai, stock headers and a mugen twinloop.

Bet him by 1/4 car on a 20km roll (on a closed private track of course ;)

We didnt try on a dig because we all know awd will own rwd/fwd in street trim.

Another thought or opinion based on experiences

Driven evos s2ks and dc2rs
Around a track ( Wakefield park).

Any evo wins. Requires far less effort to get results. Not saying evo drivers are
Noobs - but it requires a better driver or more skill/experience
To get good numbers on track.

mugen_ctr
03-12-2010, 11:37 AM
is this a serious question? lol..... evo is just that much quicker... despite what others say about a evo, being a noob of a car to drive, its still a car at the end of the day, would that mean all the new cars are noob car to drive? kinda begs the question whats a real car these day.

But on topic, evo for bang for buck, ask any evo owner, few mods an ur looking at 200kw plus, couple with suspension mods, an u have a track weapon already, an a rally car :P.... ITR is considered the stepping stone into the track world from what iev been told, generally than ppl move onto evo's, wrx and GTR.... than once the funds are up, porsche gt3, ferrari 360 etc etc

It's hard to beat the EVO's at anything really.

i reckon go the evo6 tme so damn quick plus on track with some mods is just damnnnnnnnnnn

dougie_504
03-12-2010, 08:30 PM
Of course the EVO is an easier car to drive. It's not FWD, so it's surely more track suitable because you're not turning with your only two powered wheels.

And if it's an easier car to drive that's probably a good thing? Surely'd it'd be a step backwards to get a car that's harder to drive?

That is still very impressive. Stock wrx turbo can be tuned safely to around 16psi and im guessing a stock sti which is always on par with the evo's will have abit more psi then its younger brother. Ive always loved evo's

JohnO
03-12-2010, 11:23 PM
Well its all handling on the track anyways so it shouldnt matter till the straight. Had a passenger session in my friend's 06 sti teaching me corners, passed an evo and did it again in the timed session. was just on street tyres+cusco coils, so i guess sti's are on par.

The Evolution 6 TME (nicknamed 6.5) runs 1.4 bar boost stock, that's around the 21psi mark. It differs from the "regular" Evo 6 in that it has Titanium/Magnesium coated turbine blades for 600rpm faster spool. Consider this, it makes full boost before 3000rpm in comparo with the DC2R's VTEC engaging in the 5000+ rpm range?

i reckon go the evo6 tme so damn quick plus on track with some mods is just damnnnnnnnnnn
Yeh, very quick cars. My brother has one with BPU (Basic Performance Upgrades). I spoke to the previous owner at a dyno day and he managed a 12.9 with a cat back. They are very, very fast on race tracks too.

Lol I don't think that car lost a race ...

My dc2 ( when stock) beat a stock jap s15...

So how can a modified s2k have a stock wrx keep up with it when it has more displacement and power than a b18
