Well Yesterday I was getting all excited about my car again and was even considering posting some new pics. Then total meltdown, Driving home last night at 11:30pm started to hear this really bad Knocking. I’m like Crap, well dropped it off to mechanics today going to let me know the truth but I guessing it’s pretty bad Rod Knock 2.5k -3.5k really loud metal on metal.

I am really hoping that I’m just a stupid noob and something simple but know me it’s not going to be.

it’s done 144k and trying to get ideas on what I should do? rebuild? or import JDM k20a.

Sad Day

Well the worst happened, dead bottom end.
been able to source a fresh k20a2 long block from NSW, for amazing price. Love family contacts.
but here comes the work, as im in Tasmania, every one is quite reluctant to do any major work before Christmas so they want to do like for like.
I thoughts are now is the best time to get any work done, I am defiantly not looking for super power but been reading up on what are simple bolt on's that will make the hole car better.

so any info on sourcing items quick (i.e. 7 days) would be awesome and if any one thinks don't bother let me know

Hondata Intake Gasket - any one know where to get in AUS quick
Lighten Flywheel (new clutch ) - what brand seem to be easy to source
Headers ether JDM and EP3r Sway or something else and exhaust
Final Drive - seen this mentioned a little bit but not much info on what to swap it with part numbers from honda?

any help welcome
Thanks

well at the moment to get my car back up and running before xmass total cost so is under $4k installed so thinking pretty lucky to find a k20a2
what version of k24 are you guys talking about?
presuming you would need ecu wiring harness and more for a complete swap?

I did a k24a3 swap into my DC5R. K24A3 is pretty much the best K24 you can get in Australia, I think K24A2 is the best but that is only found in Acura TSX.
Here's an outline of what you need.
If you do this engine swap, you can do it in conjunction with putting in a new clutch, you'll save on labour cause you take the gearbox out to do a conversion, be a good idea to get your gearbox serviced aswell.
K24A3
Engine mounts, I use Hasports. The stock one flexes and moves WAY too much for comfort, I could feel the engine banging the chassis as I change gears,
KPRO ecu.
Im using pretty much every think else from my K20a.
Also if you plan on getting headers and an exhaust do it with the conversion so you once again save on labour.

Hasports I got from JDM yard for $565 approx
KPRO you can buy off ebay for approx $1.5K last time I checked
K24A3 - price varies
Labour - price varies from workshop to workshop.

question - WHY did this happen ? Did you thrash it with little or no oil in it ? Or thrash it while cold ? Or does it have a fully sick long intake and the pod sucked water up ?

Thanks for the info V8KLLR,
dose sound like their is power to be had from the K24A3.
and thanks for everyone else for the advice.

Hi bennjamin, Im not to sure from your tone but thanks for the warm welcome from a "Moderator".
as you don't really know me, or the history of my DC5R (ether do I) i don't really feel the need to justify my self.

It's hard to know with 2nd hand cars, there's no telling what the previous owner did to it. :(

I wonder about mine sometimes, so I'm trying to build and strengthen it up in 100% my own style.

good luck buddy, sorry to hear it died, however it's only a chance to bring it back stronger than ever. should make a build thread when you start the work on it. :)

Hey man I also forgot to add, with the K24a3 there is HEAPS more torque than k20a2. I am so happy with how much power its got now. The k24a3 and k20a2 have similar kilowatt outputs, its just the way the power is felt. With K24a3 its throughout the whole rev range.

all in all time will tell if eveything is back in busness taking it easy for a while as not to sure of the full health of the new k20a2
