Hey guy's was driving my 99 ek yesterday and felt like it had no power how it usually does. Everytime i would accelerate it would bog down and then take off, and every time i would stop driving it i would get out and there would be massive heat coming from the right hand side brakes. At one stage i had to open the bonnet had no idea what it was. My dad's mate was over and he think's its a seized brake caliper which actually makes sense. I was wondering how much would it cost to take mechanic to fix? Would you be able to fix yourself? And how would you fix it just a really quick rundown on how to. Ive done all my work tomy car so i know my way around it.

Thanks in advance Steve.

Look up "DIY brake caliper rebuild" on Youtube. If your mechanically minded then it's fairly easy to do, just take your time with it.

To rebuild the caliper you'll need a rebuild kit, you can purchase it from most brake specialists or order it through Repco/Autobahn and the likes. Take your caliper off, give it a good clean and then take out the piston. You'll need an air compressor, put the nozzle into the bleed valve and pump air into it. Block the piston with a peice of wood or old brake pads as the caliper will literally shoot out so be cautious with that. When the piston is out, extract the rubber seal and lube it up with fresh brake fluid - preferably the one you will use on the car. Give the piston a clean, be careful not to score and scratch the caliper or the piston bore. Put in the new seal and clip, lube both that and the piston then slide the piston in. When the piston is in, you'll need to get pull the rubber seal over the piston. The piston has a recess in it for the seal to go over and then the clip put in place.

Then it's a matter of connecting it back onto your car and bleeding the system. I'd highly recommend doing both and not just one as a rebuilt caliper works far more efficiently that one that has seen alot of mileage.

Well if its not pulling to the right, its not just a seized caliper on the rhs.

Jack it up and see if you can turn the wheel.
