I've got an EK Civic here that I managed to auction for a friend for $800 off eBay. :)

It has no rego and needs some TLC on the body panels for a blue slip. Anyway, I'm not the best mechanic out there as I can only do level 1 servicing (Spark plugs, oil change etc.) for now. So any hard bits will be going to a mechanic.

I've drianed the oil, changed it and the filter. I've changed the air filter and spark plugs too. I've also emptied the stale coolant and put some decent castrol coolant in there.

The odometer says 250,000KMs, but I haven't got a log book to tell me what else has been done in all of this time. Would the timing belt need replacing yet? I have no idea on how to do that myself but I do know i'll probably end up changing the water pump in the process.

So what needs to be done?

Thanks.

Check the timing belt and bushes. Also might change the fuel filter.. that all I can think off

generally on most cars the timing belt needs to be changed every 100 thousand with a car of that kms id change all the belts and water pump as well as what you have and the fuel filter also.

If i bought a car that old, I would replace every consumable. Within reason of course.

Fluids, major belts, inspect pads, replace filters.

So basically everything you can think of needs attention.

if i was you, id go to mechanic and do a leakdown test to check engine.
if its ok, i change all that mentioned above.

this will get you started. basically you would need to do all the things he mentioned in there. then all the maintenance parts.

got the mechanics check today... it needs new shocks and new wheel bearings. the engines had a head gasket replacement apparently. and the timing belt will be changed over next week at the appointment.

skunk2 sport shocks are cheaper than OEM ;-)

i would just check everything and run it on all OEM parts where possible

D-series engines will go well over 400k kms if looked after =)
